MPIO FY700 MLC NAND flash MP3
So what the heck is is this thing, a thermometer? High-tech Slap Bracelet? Gumby-edition iPod? No, this strange looking device is in fact an upcoming MP3 player from Korean manufacturer MPIO, the FY700, which incorporates Multi Level Cell NAND flash memory for denser data storage. Not much more here in terms of deets, and price has yet to be determined, but that's all a moot point as we won't be seeing these on our shores anytime soon.

I think it's a high tech butt Scratcher
Looks like a butt plug to go with their Metrosexual player. Gooo MPIO!
Bet Green Giant will be a sponsor.
It's an MP3 player/Spatula, or S&M paddle, that one's in black and red
is it just me, or is that an Adidas logo at the bottom of that green thing? (best seen on the left one, when you zoom in on this picture: http://www.themp3players.com/wp-content/FY700.jpg)
gtox is right
thats either adidas or a sony vaio logo
??
Anyone got any ideas
It comes with the accessory to b**ch slap nano. ;)
it seems to me, that's may be Kappa logo
If you look at the original website (AVING.co.kr), and see the full blown up picture (http://image.aving.net/img/2005/11/08/FY700.jpg), you'll see that the logo at the end of the odd green thing isn't the adidas logo but a bunch of dots. Weird.
Also, MPIO says it'll support MS's Janus DRM and predicts a lot of popularity from the US, European, and Japanese market.
I wouldn't be surprised if that green part wraps up (like concert wrist bands or Disneyworld all-day bands) for greater portability or something...

Does the green part have an actual purpose?
I'm confused, why would they double the size of the device with a piece of green rubber?
I move that the name of Engadget be changed to
We Won’t Be Seeing These on our Shores Anytime Soon.
Has anyone else thought the green part might be a strap that inserts into a slot on the top of the device so you can wear it like a watch?
People, people...the green stuff is taffy. Complements of MPIO. So, no more discussion of what it is or isn't.
I'm more interested in MPIO. They've got some style, and some humor (metrosexual player? that gets an lolwtf).
Kibiyama > Point taken (mmmm taffy)
Jason/ You are right
Look at this site for more pictures.

MPIO has some of the most creative friggin Industrial Designers.....none of their stuff is crappy looking....the FL100, was my first MP3 player and by far still the most neat-o. They just keep getting better. Too bad they are horribly represented here in the US. I didn't see the FL100 in any US store until like a year after it came out on the World Wide InterWeb.
I bought my daughter an FL100 two years ago. It' still one of the best-looking players I have seen. It also had an SD for expansion. The FY700 is interesting as you can attach different devices to the bottom, such as the pictured green strap, a lanyard, or a carbiner.
NEVER SAY "DEETS" AGAIN.
Anybody who's not a fourteen year old girl should never say "deets" ever.
deets
The pics from http://www.imp3.net/article/article.php?articleid=6092 only show the green thing folding behind the player, I dont really see any use in it.
Shoehorn + MP3 player = MPIO FY700
Seems to me from the site http://www.imp3.net/article/article.php?articleid=6092 that the green thing folds behind the device so as to attach to a belt. In addition, it seems like its removable and can be replaced with other attachments i.e. the necklace and keyring.
