BenQ intros 19-inch FP93V LCD for Mac mini
BenQ has announced a new monitor solution for the Mac mini, the 19-inch FP93V LCD display in white with a place for
your mini atop the stand, underneath the screen. This new BenQ will sport a 1280 x 1024 resolution, 550:1 contrast
ratio, DVI and VGA compatibility, 8 ms response time, and rear channeling for cable management. We should start seeing
this new monitor before the end of the month for about $470.

Ha, buy a Mac mini for $500 and buy a $470 monitor for it. You've almost got a whole computer by this point!
I know they'll come down in price but its interesting to think about it in this manner.
I like this. Why hasn't anyone else tried this before? This looks very good and I am surprised Apple has not thought about it before.
Yeah, I shopped around and got my 19" flat for my mini for $306. That's Pricewatch though. I think $470 as a starting price for this cutom solution is reasonable.
Does BenQ make quality displays?
they did. it's called an imac.
Zing
"Why hasn't anyone else tried this before? This looks very good and I am surprised Apple has not thought about it before."
They have. It's called an iMac and it's even smaller than a combined monitor/Mac Mini. Why spend some $1000-$1300 on a Mac Mini/Monitor combo? For about the same price you can get an iMac! Plus, they are faster than the Mac Mini's.
jinx.
well, you may remember that mini was designed to switch pc users that already had a monitor for example.
I want
In weird kinda worm hole-ish (meaning that from the first moment i saw this spec un seen my brain was sucked out of my head and the only thing I could do was try and figure out a way to justify this to my other half,) this kinda makes sense for someone who already has a mini (like me) hooked up to a CRT in a back office somewhere. (And no will power to pretty things that move or play video)
Re: Brian and bebopredux
Good that you can spot sarcasm.
Benq makes top quality stuff, a gamers choice for LCD displays!
what is the 'sarcasm' you speak of?
Is it just me, or does this monitor's stand look and function exactly the same way as all of the Apple monitors...there isn't anything new or special about it.
seriously - think different.
This would be very cool, but how am I going to fit one of those Greenhouse drive/speakers/subwoofer systems under that display?
Disagree that this compares to a iMac. First off, if BenQ brings out a bigger LCD, you can UPGRADE your LCD. Try that with a iMac. Also, if the computer part of the iMac goes, then it's dead until this is fixed. With this monitor, if your Mini dies, you can use it with something else (and have a nice tray underneath the monitor).
Just got a BenQ FP91G+ from Newegg...$300 + tax, shipping, and recycling fee. OOps...it's black, and clashes with the Mini. The horror, the horror...

To remember something you... must have first learned it once. This statement has been banged over the head of PC users so many times it's starting to sound like a broken record.
The Mac mini is for PC users. A switcher 'try a mac' machine. Use your current Mon/keyboard.
They still don't get it.
While mit sa cool idea, do u really want to spend as much on a monitor as your Computer?
I still think the Mac Mini needs a PSOne-like Mini Monitor That clips onto the computer to make it travel like.
The next monitor I buy will be an LCD that can handle 1600x1200... 1280 is really starting to piss me off.
ooh...I'm stil on 1024 by 786.
I want one with a touch screen. mac mini kiosks would be cool.
Did everyone forget about the cables on the back of the Mac Mini? You are going to have to put it sideways on the monitor.
druja, the person who posted that was not being sarcastic.
Matt, that would make it into a laptop but with a smaller screen and less portable design.
"Did everyone forget about the cables on the back of the Mac Mini? You are going to have to put it sideways on the monitor."
Actually if you look at the other pictures of the monitor that the blog refers to, you will see there is a place to run the cables through the slot.
I think this is cool, Mac Mini's target people who want their equipment taking up little space as possible, this monitor does that for them.
