Scosche remote puts iPod controls on your wrist
Want to control that iPod when it's buried deep in your bag or
(in homage to his Steveness) pocket? While there's no shortage of
iPod remotes out there, Scosche has taken what seems like a
pretty obvious idea and actually produced an iPod wrist remote. Strap it on watch-style, and you're in control, as long
as you're in range of its RF signal.

as watches go... isn't it facing the wrong way?
icruise @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
Except of course it won't work with the nano, since it uses the remote control port...
dollarhacker @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
it looks as if it's specifically made for the mini, judging by the placement of the controller/headphone jack
Rohan @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
exactly number 2
clark law @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
more like sideways... wrong.
needs a good 90 degree turn.
Eagle117 @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
But it's a great idea.
Utills @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
Why not just be normal and put it on the headphones (the cable). Then develop it further and add a small screen too!
That looks ugly!
Martin @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
where do you plug in the headphones then? Does it have a passthrough for the headphone jack? Do you plug in the headphones into the watch? Or do you need to use the dock port?
greg Ellingson @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
won't work with any of the current iPods
Obi1Sith @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
People, This will work for some folks out there, but instance, those of us who listen to their iPods while riding a motorcycle. Sure the design is wrong (No.5 you got it right), but it's much easier to cycle through your playlist, or most importantly Pause while wearing gloves if the buttons are big. (It's not so easy to do this with the Apple branded iPod remote, which uses very tiny buttons.) You can also place this remote on the handle bar instead of the wrist, making it easier to reach while going 140 mph.
I would definitely get one.
Jin Kim @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
An iPod watch anyone? Add the wheel and a screen and you have an iPod watch.
Kas @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
Great comments guys. But, the RF remote was designed for boarding and hence the remotes over sized buttons and directions are correct when attached to your bicep area. This remote is fully water resistant and impact resistant.
It was designed and produced before the Nano and iPod Video came out...stay tuned for new RF designs by Scosche soon.

Gah! I wish they'd start making stuff like this for the 5g ipod.. This would be perfect for me if it was. Guess I just have to wait a bit.
Nate @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
Wait, boarding... Like surfboarding? As in, in the water?
Cus then the ipod would get wet.
warrenpeace @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
that actually doesn't look so bad now that my second apple wired remote has died. i just bought the last one three months ago too. the previous one lasted a year, at least. i really miss not having a remote and it's one of the reasons I didn't get a nano to replace my mini. if this could be moved onto my courier bag strap, it'd be even better. though, with my luck you won't be able to get one in canada.
Ethan @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
"You can also place this remote on the handle bar instead of the wrist, making it easier to reach while going 140 mph."
I certainly hope you're not playing around with your ipod when you're going 140 mph.
devid @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
i wish it displayed the time.

But the iPod is not.....
How are you going to take your iPod surfing?
SCOSCHE @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
The receiver is small enough to fit the Mini and will work on all iPods with the control port. It does have a pass thorugh for the headphone jack. Strap it on your handlebars, forearm or bicep and it's good to go. The remote range is 100'+ so you can put it just about anywhere you like.

No Ethan, but I wish I could sometimes. :-)

If you guys think RF remote controls are cool...check out Scosche's Bluetooth kits for iPod or MP3 player. You can buy one Scosche iPod Bluetooth kit for your car or home than add as many Bluetooth recievers to other vehicles, boats, RVs, companion car, etc... Totally wireless with streaming digital sound quality. Why use an RF remote when you could have your iPod in your hand.

Jin Kim: ...and a hard drive, and a battery, and the PCB. Hey, you're right! It's just like an iPod, except it's totally different!
tonicboy @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
Not exactly pretty but it seems like a good idea. I agree with everyone else though, about the orientation needing to be turned 90 degrees CCW. Even if worn on the biceps, this would be a more natural orientation. An elegant solution would be to make the face of the "watch" removable so you can change the orientation depending on different uses. Water resistant is nice for snowboarding and, yes, even surfing (there are lots of waterproofing solutions out there for audio players).

this is exactly what i need for my winamp/mediaplayer/itunes running on my pc...

Question to #18: You wrote that: It does have a pass through for the headphone jack. Does that mean it's only compatible with the supplied headphones from Apple? I use some Sony ones that connect @ a 90degree. Thanks.
2_hotty @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
I think this is a great idea. However, I wouldn't buy it unless they rotated it.
SCOSCHE @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
reply to #28.
it will work with ANY headphones using a standard 3.5mm plug. Pass through just means that it keeps use of the headphone plug and your 90degree ones will be fine.

I just received this as a gift and intended to use it when I teach classes at the gym. IT DOES NOT WORK CONSISTENTLY and I am going to have to contact the company to see if there is any resolution. So far, a big disappointment.
Terry Rollins @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
What kind of a battery is in the remote? How long does it last? I looked on Scosche.com and they don't even mention that there is a battery in the remote. I know the receiver doesn't need one.
