Solar-powered Energy Curtain illuminates at night
Our incessant need to slap solar panels on any surface that even has a remote chance of being exposed to sunlight has entered a new realm with the sun-collecting Energy Curtain. Created by Sweden-based Interactive Studios subsidiary Re:form, this modern window dressing builds up a charge during the day and uses embedded materials to provide illumination at night. The Energy Curtain is supposed to make us wax philosophical on the trade-offs between energy production and usage in a self-sustainable system, but we look at it as just another method of pulling enough sunjuice into our house to fulfill our goal of transforming into the solar-powered badguy in Superman IV.

I have the feeling it will not hit it big in the US .

You just have to admire these kinds of things. You have one of those "how come nobody thought of that before" moments

So, uh, block the light during the day but turn on the light at night?

LD (comment #3), Many people are not home during the day. This solution keeps the space cool during the day (blocking out the light) and provides inexpensive , green illumination when occupied.

Yeah, but I don't want green illumination. It'll make everything look irradiated instead of illuminated! ok, kidding. couldn't resist.
Depending on the illumination vs. cost, I'd be willing to consider something like this. Plus I bet it'd look cool with a bunch of those retro-futurist eggshell chairs...

I've been meaning to replace my shades for a while now, anyway...
