CDMA Motorola Q on Verizon, eh?
Yeah, you all know the drill — we can't verify the validity of these photos, but we did have it on authority that Moto was working on a CDMA Q, and it only makes sense that Verizon would be the carrier. Boy Genius, who apparently took the shots, says it'll be out in Jan or Feb, has EV-DO, and that Moto is apparently still working on the keys.

Can anyone explain to me why the screen on this phone is off-center?
my guess is because its photoshopped
No, its actually really off-centre. Maybe the antenna is there. Its only 11 mm ( 0.43 inches) thick you know. It must be difficult to find a place for everything.
Surur
built in wifi,320x320 screen,64mb maybe more on the memmory, umts on a gsm network and evdo on the others, able to make VOIP calls, then i would be willing to buy at "discounted price" ohh wait i can get that next christmas in the form of a treo as reported in treo 650 refreshed
Yeah it is photoshopped, look at the shadows
this is true... we are to have the q in january but with all the problems they have had with the razr (and motorola) im going to bet that it comes out around summer...
Oh god, it's not photoshopped, the Q's screen is like that in ever picture:
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=motorola%20q&sa=N&tab=wi
And if you actually clicked on the link, you'd see that there are plenty more shots, and if you dug a little further, you'd see that Boy Genius gets his hands on all kinds of goodies way before everyone else.
I sat next to a Motorola Engineer on a plane back from Newark to O'Hare. This is definitely out on Verizon. It was labeled Verizon and he showed be EVDO speeds on it. Playing full screen movies was also good. Then he tried to defend the ROKR and everything went downhill...
How do you all know this is even by Boy Genius, looks pretty anonymous to me.
you're right about it not being photoshopped.
i hadn't looked at this phone very closely. i wish it had wifi, and i wish it had a higher-rez display, but it's definitely something i would consider buying.
Looks like this phone is intended to be a BlackBerry killer. The problem may be software incompatibilities with the landscape screen however.
I bet this one is going to have iTunes anyway. And it is going to be hacked so it can be possible with any WM pda. That would be ironically funny.

Its not photoshoped.... if you look at motos press release at http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/details/0,,113,00.html you can see its off center in the press release also....

I think I'll turn my attentions to the Nokia E61 then.

It may be 3mm thicker, but at least it's got wifi, a backlit keyboard, Blackberry connect... and a centered screen!
To xbit, 3mm is 20% thicker. The Q is also 30 cubic centimeters smaller than the E61. Nice going comparing apples with oranges.

Comparing one email-centric candybar smartphone featuring a 320x240 resolution display and keyboard with another email-centric candybar smartphone featuring a 320x240 resolution display and keyboard is like comparing apples and oranges? What planet are you living on?
If any two devices could be compared it's the Motorola Q and Nokia E61. They're direct competitors, even with the *massive* 3mm difference in thickness.
The pics are valid. I work for a company that writes software for all sorts of mobile gadgets and we get a lot of these before the public. We have the Verizon Moto Q in the office and it looks just like the one in the pics. From my first impressions, the interface seems a bit sluggish and the graphics refreshes are kinda slow which is strange, but that's from playing with it for about a minute.
Not putting WiFi on this could make me wait(not to mention that I am contracted with Sprint for the next 2 years). The Nokia looks nice, has WiFi and does not have toy copycat camera (just for the sake of having a camera and has limited usability). However, I still think that the MotoQ is better than my Blackberry.
xbit, its like comparing a Mini with a SUV, and saying the SUV has more cupholders. These are devices with different design philosophies. The Q is all about size, and WIFI is extraneous to an e-mail centric device. Apples and oranges.
Surur
I'd love to see an SUV that's only 20% bigger than a Mini.
And maybe WiFi doesn't matter too much on an email-centric device, but what about a backlit keyboard and Blackberry connect software? That's going to matter to a lot of people, including myself.
The Q's screen is off-center. It's a design issue Motorola had to live with on the device because of the card slot to the left of the screen. Those shots are extremely authentic looking.
Best, Ryan
All of this is great, but who the F*** needs EVDO if Verizon blocks bluetooth and DUN? Yeah, I can check email faster and browse crippled web faster, and maybe send pix faster, but wireless sync + DUN is a *MUST*. Verizon do you listen to your customers EVER??
Verizon is so lame in crippling their phones, that if they continue to disable built-in phone features I am going to cancel my service and switch to Cingular or Sprint. They need to realize that as EVDO phones gain widespread acceptance people will want to connect them to their computers via bluetooth en masse, and will undoubtedly leave en masse if they continue to cripple their phones.
