Best Black Friday bargains?
Ok, so maybe you weren't lined up outside of CompUSA at 4am this morning to score that $9.99 Bluetooth headset, but we bet a lot of you out there found some sweet deals on gadgets and electronics today, and we want to hear about 'em (with links to online deals, too).

actually we were at compusa at 12am. ;)
200gb for $30 is too good to pass up
Even though I was working at a major retailer this morning, I had someone pick up for me from Circuit City what I think is a great deal. It was a Syntax Olevia 26" HDTV LCD TV/Monitor. I can't wait to set that baby up with the Xbox 360, TV, and as my PC monitor, it was $699 with a $200 mail in rebate, so $500 is a great deal!
I scored a Maxtor 200gb hard drive for $30 after $40 rebate from staples....I also picked up call of duty 2 for the pc for $25...pretty good deals I think....I will never go out on black friday again though....too many rude foreigners!!
I grabbed a 99$ desktop at Office Depot, I plan on turining it into a PVR, because at 99 dollars, you just can pass up a computer with monitor and printer.
I picked up the $378 Laptop for my wife at Walmart. Not a bad little laptop.
Hmm, I stopped by Best Buy for the 120 gig Seagate Barracuda HD for $30, and while there picked up 2x 1 gig flashdrives for $19.99.
After best buy I went to staples and got a 200 Gig Western Digital HD for $30 also along with a 512 flashdrive for $9.99.
A bunch of my friends got the $149 instant rebate eMachine at best buy, I was just dumb enough to freeze out there with them from 11:00 pm until 5:00 am when the store opened.... heh
I picked up the $499.99 Westinghouse 26" LCD TV at BestBuy. The store I was at sold out of all 8 of them in the first 15 minutes they were open, myself getting one of the last ones. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7443723&type=product&id=1124432746579
i didnt buy anything...the line went all the way around the store and zig zagged through every isle. some guy was like in the middle of the line and he said he's been waiting there for an hour
Worst year for Black Friday ever! I managed to get $500 26" LCD HDTV from Best Buy after $100 rebate but people had been waiting in my town since 6pm!!
I picked up a 1 GB thumb drive from Office Depot, as well as some 512 MB Memory Stick Pros from Best Buy. Like AG, I got the Call of Duty 2 for PC for half price (Best Buy). I was also able to snag a couple of $50 Game Boys at Wal-Mart. All in all, not too bad for my first Black Friday 4 AM start.
I slept in 'til 10:30 and did not buy cheap crap I didn't need.
Scored a $378 laptop from Walmart...Got in line at 11:40 Thurs evening and was number 17 of 30 laptops in stock...Ditto on it being a nice little laptop!
Ohhh, Symphonic 20" televisions from Walmart. Wow, am I jealous. You would have to pay me to take home a symphonic television.
I got to WalMart at 4:45 AM, the parking lot was FULL. The feeding frenzy was insane. I got nothing. I went there for the GameBoy SP, and I ended up with zippo. The crowd looked like pirhana stripping bare a carcass. It sickened me to see that kind of behavior in supposedly civilized adults. Disaster victims are more civilized when food is distributed.
The night didn't look promising at Circuit City or Best Buy as the lines were ridiculous by the time I got out there (1am)...however, was able to snag a couple 19inch Samsung LCDs for 199, a couple HP Scanjet 4670s for 37, and a network color laser for 349. a pirates loot! kinda...
Lessee here...
512 MB flash drive: $10
HP digital camera (4 MP, no optical zoom, good enough for me): $80
512 MB SD card for the camera: $15
Surge protector: $0
Laughing at the people who went to Best Buy trying to get those $150 computers and wound up wrapping around the parking lot: Priceless.
Let's see had the intention of picking up the 378 dollar laptop at Wal-Mart for my parent.....got there at 4 am waited outside in Connecticuts freezing weather for an hour only to run into the store and sprint to the electronics department. Got in another line for another hour as the stupid Wal-mart employees mis managed the whole issue. People cut in front of us and we fell 5 people short of getting the last of all 30 laptops.
Some lady bought 4 using her 5 year olds and credit card.
Black Friday is such a huge rush. Normal people turn to ruthless animals and thanks to that i didn't get the laptop.
I headed over to Staples to lose out again but they only had 3 laptops to begin with........3!!!!!
Scored two HP Pavillion Desktops @ $398 each for my classroom at Walmart. Two for the price of one. Nice little systems, ready for use on Monday.

What's with the foreigner statement AG? What country are you from?
A $14 dvd player $67 portable 7" dvd player and $67 for a dvd recorder at frys electronics
150$ for an emachines computer with moniter at bestbuy
#9 i agree. you get what you pay for.
I got in line at BestBuy at 8:00pm on Thursday for a $379.99 Toshiba laptop, and a $149.99 pc (which i'm using to type this). I was 8th in a line of about 800 when the store opened at 5am. I even saw someone buy a laptop voucher for $50 cash. The whole thing was ridicules, but fun...
Here is my Black Friday story. Slept in till about 10:30am. Had some waffles. I then washed my car. I will never go shopping on a day like this. It's not worth my time.
I went to comp usa in manhattan at midnight, line was down the block and around the corner. When they opened the door it was a mad rush. I jumped at the beginning of the line as everyone ran in. The whole place was nuts. I didn't like any of the deals this year anyways so left.
I learned a very important lesson this morning: NEVER TAKE "NO" FOR AN ANSWER!
I had planned to wake up extra early (3:30) to hit up Circuit City on some of their minor deals (the 512 flash storage cards especially) but decided to sleep until about 6:15.
Getting to the store at 7:45, it seemed everything I wanted had already sold out. I wasn't surprised, but at the same time, I wanted to make sure. I asked around to different employees, managers, etc. and to my surprise was able to get out of CC with TWO 512 SD cards, ONE 512 CF card ($9.99 each), THREE DVDs, and TWO Aiptek Pocket DV Cams ($54.99 each) after being repeatedly told by several IDIOTIC employees and a CRAP FOR BRAINS manager that everything had already "sold out"...
"Sold out" my heiny...
this whole shopping thing after thanksgiving is downright ridiculous. ever wonder why this country has debt up the wazoo!? good for the people that own stores.
I got to my local Walmart at 12:00AM and me and my friend were numbers 26 and 27 in the line.
When they opened the door at 5AM we walked in the stored in a controlled manner (a lot of cops were watching us). Once inside we ran toward the electronics department where the laptops were.
There were only 34 of those $378 HP laptops available and hundreds of some $597 eMachines laptops.
My friend and I struggled a bit, but a last each of us walked out with one HP laptop :-)
By the way, I also got one of those $98 TV/DVD combos for my kid, one $55 sewing machine and four $3 bath towels.... and yes, it paid off wasting all those hours in the line. I'm in Miami and it was a warm and cozy night, I feel for you guys in the gelid north :-(
Aaah, Black Friday.
Made waffles for the family, took them to see Harry Potter at 10:30 a.m., took my daughter to her swim team practice.
Avoided the stores COMPLETEY>
Circuit City had a WD 250 GB 7200 RPM ATA HD for $59 after rebate.
That is, I took the family to the movies, not the waffles :P
Headed out to Wal-Mart at 4am in pursuit of one of those $378 laptops. Actually managed to get within the first fifty spots in line due to the 18-degree weather despite my late showing. The gates crashed open promptly at 5am and everyone sprinted to the electronics section, the feeding frenzy had begun. Sadly, for some unknown reason, the laptops were NOT in the electronics section, they were in the restaurant area, by the door in a pile.
When all was said in done I *just* missed the last laptop as someone grabbed a handful before running off. I actually managed to touch the laptop box, but that was about as close as I got. Sad since many people had 3-4 of them in their carts. But I consider myself lucky since virtually NONE of the people who were first in line even got a shot at one.
In the end, I scored a Polaroid 15" LCD TV for $178 and a JVC digital camcorder for $248. So not a total loss.
three 80gb hdd free after rebate
two external 160gb for 30 bucks after rebate
75 blank dvds for 3 bucks
not a bad deal
forgot to mention, it was 30 bucks each
Our local Meijer store was price matching ALL black Friday sales ads, didn't matter where from or what it was.
Went there yesterday during the day (yes, they are open on Thanksgiving), bought a Game Boy Advance at the Wal-Mart price of $48.88 and waited through a line of ZERO people and left.
Slept until 11:00 today, got some much needed sleep after my mad shopping rush yesterday of 5 minutes.
I just feel for you all that don't have a local Meijer store. I have been on black Friday shopping trips before, and it's a nightmare. It's SO nice to just get the newspaper, find what I want in all the ads, and take it into Meijer and price match it. I could even do it today if I wanted to.
They even had the 26" Olevias for $499 AR just like Circuit City all day yesterday and today. There were a ton in stock yesterday at 6:00 pm or so.
I did the Black Friday shopping last year. So many stores short-stocked all the Really Good Deal items that I didn't get most of the stuff I wanted... despite the fact that I was in line plenty early.
So, I chose to sleep in this year. I didn't see anything worth getting up early for anyways.
why not? ever thought of letting the waffles have a little fun once in awhile?
I wish I had more money to spend on expensive items (like things that were 300 marked down to 100) but here's what I ended up coming home with today.
512MB PNY USB Drive- $20- No rebates- Frys- Nomrally $60
2x 25pks of DVD+Rs- $1.30 each- No rebates- Frys- Normally $15 each
Call of Duty 2 (PC)- $25- No rebates- Best Buy- Normally $45
Cheap DVD Player for my sister- $20 after $25 instant rebate (Normaly $45)- Toys R US
GTA Vice City (PC)- $10 after $10 instant rebate (Normaly $20)- Best Buy
Guitar Hero- $70 (Not really a sale, but I bought it anyway)- Best Buy
Let's see: I bought a 1GB USB key for $19.99 (after rebate), and am about to head on over to a radio shack to see if they still have bluetooth headsets for $9.99 AR ... but that's it. this camping out nonsense and lining up at 0400 is crazy!
Went to Circuit City at 3AM & missed the $449 Toshiba laptop (I have my doubts that they actually had these when they opened the doors).
Left there at 4:45 before they opened the doors because they went from the front of the line & issued vouchers for all the doorbuster items (1 item per shopper).
Went to Target next door & was 3rd in line for their 6AM opening. Bought a 20" TV for my Daughter's room, and a millinnium falcon lego set, plus verious other stuff my wife threw in the cart.
Went back to Circuit City & each of us got a 20" poloroid HDTV for $188.00, one to replace my Son's TV & Monitor..... and the other for me!! :)
When I got home I found that Apple's online store had .mac on sale for $69, so I renewed my account.
Got up to wait in Best Buy line at 2:30. Managed to get the nifty little 512 mb SanDisk mp3 player with radio, and a couple of seasons sets for my friends. Yes, it was a bit crazy, but at my Best Buy there were enough mp3 players for the people at the back of the line, as well as dvd players, dvds, and other little goodies. The only disappointment was the Kodak C360 that my sister wanted, but we couldn't get because we didn't get a voucher (and some guy was buying four of them). Besides that, it was worth it.
$99 DS FROM TARGET
Oh and the mp3 player was $40 (normally $100) and the season sets of dvds were 20 dollars each (normally 40). Plus, we also got a huge pack of rewritable CDRs for $2 after rebates.
I just woke up.
Comment spammer.
i went to walmart at 2 in the morning to make a line to buy 3 398$ hp laptops, and 188$ hdtv 15' magnavox tv's 2 of them and snagged 6 gameboy sp for 50 bucks i was gunna get a toshiba laptop which was an open box item but was short 58$ and couldnt get it other than that the best thing all day was some guy who rammed another guy with a shopping cart to grab some dvd's. lol best black friday ever!
Did you see the news on TV? Pictures of people getting trampled on the way into a Walmart this morning, including one pregnant woman who had to be hospitalized. This will be my last foray into this insanity.
I got up at about 6, went by Staples to find a huge line, and a short stack of monitors and hard drives. So I left to work, bummed out I didn't get a Samsung 19 monitor for $199 after rebate, so I cryed all the way to NewEgg.com where I found the Acer 19 inch monitor, I already have one of these, for $189 after rebate. NewEgg rules, spread the word, no lines, no crazy soccer moms, or in that other guys case "foreigners" at NewEgg.com
i avoid these things like crazy after having to work a couple of them. people crowd into the stores hoping to get a great deal, the store only has a few of what people want, and most people end up buying stuff that isn't realy on sale, but still standing in line for hours to get it.
the store i worked at was averaging $100 000 in sales in the weeks leading up to christmas, and we did something like $480 000 in a four hour midnight madness sale. the store only had 12 different things on sale that night.

I lined up at the local best buy at around midnight on thursday night. I bought a bunch of movies(shrek 2, anchorman, meet the fockers, etc.) for 4 bucks and a couple for 8 and a couple cd's for around 8 bucks. I bought a 1,000 compaq laptop amd turion 64 process 1.6 ghz dvd-rw, 512 ddr and 80 gb hard drive. I bought it in store for 1,000, but there is a 150 dollar rebate so the laptop is 850. Bought a bunch of supplies for it such as wireless mouse and case for 70 dollars in store with a 40 dollar rebate!
Thanksgiving was in October!
Silly Americans. :P
I wish Johen Vasquez would do a cartoon about this.
I went to CompUSA at about 8:30 this morning and scored a GREAT deal on a Saitek gaming keyboard reduced from $60 to $20, I also got 90 CD-R's for $9 and 20 DVD-RW's for $4.98. The line wasn't too bad, maybe 20 minutes.
I stayed away from the stores since the crazy crowds make my trigger finger itchy, but I did score a 20" widescreen lcd from Dell (even though their website sux) for $440 after tax. Not nearly as cool looking as my Apple 20" Cinema Display, but will work fine for my pc gaming!
I got a pair of men's black fur shaved mink gloves regularly $695 for only $137! The mink is on the outside of the gloves so it has a teddybear effect but whateva.
Ridiculous...
I got a 512 MB Memory Stick Pro Duo for my PSP for $19.99 after rebate at Circuit City.
well i've been shopping for 13 hours now. i have managed to max out 23 different credit cards and i reached the limit on my HELOC...home equity line of credit.
i love this country. i can buy all kinds of useless crap that without actually having the money to pay for it. i don't know wtf i'll do with 8 big hdd, but i got em dammit. monday i guess i'll have to call the lawyer and begin filing papers for bankruptcy, but at least i have a new hdtv...for a little bit.
happy festivus everyone, and today i'm thankful the government is still able to take care of me in my retirement cause i sure can't.
I went to CompUSA at midnight and it was the busiest I had ever seen it. When they opened the door it was like a herd going into the store. Amazing how busy it was. I was there for about 15 minutes, had a look around, decided it wasn't worth saving 30 bucks to mess with the crowds and went home.
I think I'll be avoiding everything but restaurants the rest of the weekend :^).
Can somebody please explain to me what Black friday is all about (I've never heard of it)? Thanks!
3x $9.99 Plantronics Headset from Radioshack ^_^
& a bunch of other random stuff from all over the place.
its where all the major dept stores claim to have great savings but really only have a small quantity for about 4 million people
I slept in till 130 and masturbated 5 times. i think i had more fun then all of you.
A store could advertise that they're giving away piles of dog shit to the first 100 customers, and I guarantee you there are enough idiots in this country that would be lining up for it just because it's free.
My wife went to WalMart Tuesday morning at midnight for the XBOX 360. She was 19th line and they had 18. Tried again the next morning at 7 other stores and they were all out.
Today I went to WalMart at 5 AM and got something for the little lady, but I can't say what, cause she's sitting on my left. Anyway, went to Target, who opened at 6, saw the line and left.
1.5 hours later I'm standing at another Target in the next town looking at some PS2 games when someone calls on the radio asking if they have any XBOX 360's. The guy chuckles on the radio and says no. The other guy looks over at him and whispers "We got one" with a finger in the air. (They had 4 this morning but evidently someone with a ticket had not picked their's up yet).
And that's the story of how I got an XBOX 360 today. It will be on Ebay one week before Xmas for 1000 dollars (hopefully) if you want it.
Got up at 6 pm last night to go and check out the deals at the stores that were open. Went to wallymart to see them unloading 350 20 in. tvs off the semi. Went to bestbuy and got in line at 330 am to be 187th in line. Got nothing they had on sale. 1 hour line to get 3 items. Went to compmpusa and got the last 80gb $30 usb 2 unit. got 90 cdrs for 9.99. went to the mall where i walked and laughed at the people who where strugling with each other over the last items and had fun. Thats all.
512MB Memory Stick Pro Duo for my PSP: $30 AR
75 DVD+Rs/25 CD-Rs: $3 AR
8 Mile DVD for my sister: $4
Meet the Parents/Fockers, both for my mother: $12
Chappelle's Show Season 2: $15
Hypnotize by System of a Down: $10
Laughing at the asian guy stuck with antlers and a little flashing nose thing who was yelling out things you may have forgotten to buy: Priceless
Yeah, CoD2 for 25$! :D
I also want to get a Western Digital drive (250) for 60$ after rebate.
I got to CompUSA last night at 9:45PM for the midnight sale, and I was 8th in line. I wanted the $9.99 Logitech bluetooth headset and a 200GB drive. At midnight the line was around the corner. There were probably 200 people there. There wasn't enough parking for that many people, though, and people were driving around.
The doors opene, and good luck finding that freaking headset. I was running all over the store trying to find the shelf that held the tiny thing.
I finally went over to the island in the middle of the store to talk to the employee and saw someone else asking about it. The guy behind the counter found ONE in the cabinet and started to walk away with it. Five people were reaching their hands over the counter. I could see he was considering who to give it to. I said "I was second in line!" (Not so much a lie, since the group of 7 in front of me was all in one group). That tipped the balance of power in my favor and he handed it right to me, much to the dismay of the other people.
I ran over to find the $29 200GB Seagate hard drive (5 year warranty!). Found one of 2 left. Then I high-tailed it over to the checkout line. Only 2 were open. I was 5th in the checkout line to get the hell out! I was out of there by 12:20. There were already 50 people behind me in the checkout line.
People were CLIMBING the shelves to get hard drives!
I liked this sale since it was at midnight and I didn't have to wake up at 3AM to get to the store. I didn't like this sale because they didn't have large quantities of the products. EVERYONE was looking for that $9.99 bluetooth headset.
There were already ~10 people waiting at the door to the Natick Best Buy at 12:20. Holy crap. And after all of that waiting, there is still no guarantee you are going to get what you went there to get.
There was a news crew at CompUSA. They interviewed a few people. My wife Tivoed it. You could see me talking to her on my cell phone.
So, I had success, but you have to get there early, pick the right store (not a ton of people interested enough in geek stuff to show up 10 hours early on Thanksgiving), get your stuff, and then get to the checkout IMMEDIATELY.
Slept in till 10:00 am, went golfing in the afternoon, came home and barbecued up some salmon - woot!
I got a 1gb USB drive for $39, minus a $20 rebate from Best Buy, and a JBL On-Stage II speaker for iPod for $140 from the Apple Store.
Woke up at 11:00 with a cup of tea,
walked 20 feet to my computer desk, opened newegg.com bought 100pk 16x dvd+r's for $35
5 clicks later I ordered a super-cool Husky 1-gallon air compressor w/ staple/nail gun for $60 (I'm finishing my attic) and then to Compusa for a $70 ATI HDTV Wonder (HDTV rocks).
I woke up at 4am last year and it was semi-worth it, this year Black Friday sucked.
Rules for Black Friday:
- emachines = you get what you pay for = CRAP!!!
- celeron ≠ centrino
btw i love three dollar 50pks of dvd+r's because thats what I use instead of giving away (to my friends) expensive verbatim, tdk etc.
If anyone got down to the bottom here I went to Fry's (west coast store) for the following:
Hitachi 80 gig - $0 after rebate
Plantronic bluetooth headset - $9.99
SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS Gamer - $19.99 after rebate (regular price $130, usually $70 on sale)
I got there at 8:15 (after I got up at my normal time), the store had opened at 5am and the hard drive and bluetooth headset were gone. I excepted the same story for the sound card, but I got to the soundcard aisle and they had like 20 left! Dunno how that deal slipped by everyone. The Gamer edition also comes with 5 full retail games (from last year though).
Jason
I did manage to get a Casio PRG-80-1 triple-sensor watch for $97. I have been looking at the Protrek line for three years now, but this is the newest and best so far...got it from Jomashop via Amazon so I could make use of a gift certificate. Best deal of the day from home. Been a loooooong day...all night I had dreams of going to Walmart at 5 AM, and it was an unpleasant night.
I went to bestbuy and got a
17" Mag Innovision monitor for $160
A Virgin Mobile Shorty for $9 after rebates
A sandisk 512 MB mp3 player normally $100 for $40
I was hoping for a 19" monitor but I saw a guy take the last one and thought to my self
"get back here bitch"
from OfficeDepot:
- Compaq V2000 Laptop for $349 (way enough for my girlfriend - haha)
- 1GB SanDisk SD Card for $29
- 1GB SanDisk Cruzer for $29
- MS Optical Wireless Desktop Elite for $19
from dell.com:
- 20" Widescreen TFT for $435 (and free shipping)
Didn't really plan on any of this. Now I'm freakin' poor!
I agree wholeheartedly with everyone else who skipped...
Black Friday is too ridiculous. Besides, look at the brands of the stuff you guys got... crappy LCDs/Plasmas that are cheap? Enh. Cheap e-Machines? Enh.
As was already posted, you're getting what you paid for... but man, waiting in those lines? That crap reminds me of that stampede for the iBooks a few months ago.
Then again, I also live in Buffalo, so the desire to go out on crowded, snowy roads isn't really too high.
#23: You're the reason Black Friday sucks so much. Sometimes you just have to take no for an answer. It's great you got what you wanted, but just because the employees were wrong when they told you they were sold out doesn't necessarily make them "idiotic" or "crap for brains". It's perfectly reasonable that they thought those items were all gone and were mistaken.
Why did you feel you had to ask multiple people, multiple times? It's one thing if the employee you asked just blew you off and didn't even check the computer (if the computer says the store is out of inventory, they're out -- it's completely asinine to ask someone to "check the back" for stock that the inventory system doesn't say they have on a day like today), but if that wasn't the case, why push the issue and raise everyone's stress level? 99% of the time, the guys behind the counter are telling you the best of their knowledge or are simply held to whatever the computer says they have in stock.
The fact that they were wrong in this case isn't the point. It's people who live by the mantra of not taking no for an answer that make life so awful for retail employees and other shoppers on days like this. Enjoy your memory cards, by all means, just lighten up next time and at least don't call people idiots who were probably just doing the best job they could under stressful circumstances.
I picked up a $379 dollar Toshiba Satellite from Best Buy. I was the first one to get one, because they were only advertised in the Minnesota ads, and I went to an Iowa BB. :) They weren't offering the gift cards in the MN ones, but they fucked up and gave me a $45 gift card with it, so I ordered some "free" RAM off of BB.com for it, since it has a skimpy 256mb.
At least you all know what to expect when the inevitable social collapse occurs. While you all are busy slaughtering each other like the disgusting pigs that you are, I'll be scoping you, through my infrared, at a safe distance.
Hell, maybe I'll even pick a few of you off for good measure...
I was just wondering...are the sales that you guys get on Black Friday generally better than the sales that major stores put up on Boxing Day? Because up here in Canada, we don't have any Black Friday.I'm looking for a middle of the road mp3 player but holding on to my money until boxing day, or hopefully someone will gift me a decent mp3 player until then :)Wish we had Black Friday up here.
My in-laws went to Best Buy @ 4:30 in the morning. The line was huge. They left there and went to Wal-mart. Wal-mart price matched the prices in the sales paper, they got me Seasons 1-3 of "24" for 19.96 each!
I scored $292 worth of DVDs and CDs for $121 from Circuit City, Best Buy and Target. I started at 4:30 a.m. and was home by 7:00.
I got to my local Boynton Beach, FL (no way in hell)-Super Wal at 2am. I was in the 1st 10-15 people in line. We had to hear from another person in line that the store had 9-10 of the HPs. I asked several persons that worked in the store as they were walking in where the systems were located. At no time would anyone from the store tell us where they were, except to say "that their all over the place". Now I assume that they ment all of the 5 to 11am deals were all over the store; Cleaver word play on their part. When 5am arrive, we jammed it to the electronics dept only to be told to go to Sporting Goods dept. I swear I was like the 5th or 6th person there. There was not one pc to be seen. The large sales person (yes, he was quite heavy set...a smaller person may have felt threatened by themselves) only said, "There all gone". How the hell could anyone else get to the rear of the store that fast? Minutes later I see a woman in her 50s with one of the laptops. Something was so wrong with this picture. There was no way she could have gotten to the rear of that fast. From the time the doors opened to the time I got the back of the store was just over a 1 min. Perhaps she came in through a closer entrance (which there should have been only the one where the line started), she knew someone in the store that held the item for her, or she was let in early. Either way any of the persons at the beginning of that line did not have a chance to get one of the laptops and we did not.
Shame on Walmart for not being honest in their as to let up know how many units are available per store, shame on the store for not allowing store employed to tell the people in line how many and where the computers are.
Something smells here people and its not in the Vegetable isle.
my girlfriend gave me "hot coffee" for two bucks :D
I got a 2006 Jetta. I don't think I got the best deal on it, but whatever.

Perfect Dark Zero-30$ after rebates
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland -xbox360]-15$ after rebate

WHAT A GREAT DAY

Say, does Black Friday happen in Canada?
I feel sorry for people who have to go to that fluorescent infused nasty walmart. Yech.
New York City
I went out to Best Buy at 4:45am to get in line. I managed to get the MAG 19" monitor for $170 after rebates (1 of like 30 they had there). I was surprised people weren't picking them up. They were more interested in the DVD bins and computers.
Then i went home to drop off my stuff and walked 2 blocks to the Staples by City Hall at 5:45. I was only 8th in line and got the 200GB Maxtor hard drive for $30 after rebate.
Went home to drop off stuff, and went to check out Circuit City at Union Sq. For some reason, police were restricting the number of people that went inside. I can understand circuit city employees, but why police men? Anyways, after it being open for an hour and a half, the line was about 2 blocks long (wrapped around to 13th street).
These are stores that should be kicking themselves:
J&R - i overheard that few of the managers were disappointed with the lack of shoppers. They didn't have any good deals.
Barnes & Noble - i would have at least expected them to have some DVDs and CDs on sale.
Bed, Bath & Beyond - they didn't advertise anything. They didn't have any price reductions in store.
god i woke up at 2am for circuit city...got there and the line was already around the corner ...i was like hell no...so i hightailed it over to staples...i was expecting it to be like last year...nooone there...but ugh there was already a huge line...so i went home. My mother got all the good stuff.
Re: 85, 78
Boxing Day == Black Friday (with the exception of date, and outside temperature.)
Same kinda deals, same kinda idiots trampling folks to get deals no one's ever seen the likes of before.
Re: 14
Sorry to burst your bubble, but entry-level color lasers from HP have been sub-$400-canadian for months (after rebates).
To those of you that can't afford regular priced or normal sale priced items, this does not apply.
To the rest of you inbred cattle, get a life. Is it really worth getting up at 3am to save a few bucks on crappy branded merchandise that you or the poor sap you give it to will just throw out in a year?
I laugh my ass off when I see news stories showing people trampling each other for this crap. I wonder what other civilized countries actually think of us when they see this nonsense.
Yes, Yes it is worth it.
I got an extra 2 hours of sleep. It was priceless (literally AND figuratively).
Some scary tales on this board today (though the low priced SD and CF cards are a bit tantilizing, as are the mid tier FPs/TFTs). But I've done black friday before, and it's not really worth it. eBay and other internet based shopping lets me save money and buy 'crap' year round from the comfort of my own home, so why rub (or in this case JAB) elbows with Hoi Paloi ?
Thanks go out to "Pat" as well for his/her kind and sensible words. Having also WORKED black friday in a retail environment, I got my fill of 'don't take no for an answer' and 'the customer is always right' types. I tried to assist everyone as best I could (it WAS my job after all), but I can honestly say, when customers were reasonable and respectful (of themselves and others) they would very rarely get a flat "No, that's out of stock." answer from me. Usually it was more along the lines of "Hang on a sec" fumble fumble "Well the order sheet says we're out, but let me check the back stock to make sure...". Sometimes they got the item they were after, sometimes not. But under those circumstances they always got what they deserved...to be treated like a human being...because they treated me like one too.
But I guess as many have already stated, THAT is not what "black friday" is at all about...
to 18.
I am an American....I went to compusa both wednesday and thursday night only to come away empty handed, instead i had to deal with a store full of Asians and Indians....both countries I have traveled to extensively and the rude social behavior of crowding and running people over is normal...but for some reason they have to come over here and feel that behavior is acceptable, next year i may go back just to push them around some more.
Went to CompUSA at midnight like every other computer geek and picked up some rather nice stuff and consulted a few people on laptops and desktops also ... being asian and everything they figured i would know and i did .. haha ...
i picked up
160gb ext HD for 50 after MIR
1gb san disk micro flash for 40 after 20MIR
wireless mouse for 17 after IR
Some DVDs for 8
Took a lot at the laptops and desktops they had on sale and i was like ehh .. nothing special but the price .. didnt like the celeron M processors .. thought those were garbage ... would rather have the AMDs .. Think i came out of BF pretty good
$63 for an hp psc 2610 (great printer) at staples due to rebates and the 110% prince match guarantee, $200 at register then 60 in rebates at staples, 130 at register at circuit city, and then 30 in rebates so 200 - (1.1(200-130)-60= 63 w00t, and a 19 lcd for $200
We went to CompUSA at midnight and I tried to pick up a 200GB HD. Now it wasn't really $30, you had to send in a bunch of rebates. I really hate rebates because it always seems like it gets lost in the mail...Rebates are a big scam! Then we headed over to Best Buy around 2am and found about 10 people standing in line...We went home to get some blankets and at 2:30am we went online...By 5am when the store opened the line was wrapped around the store...
They handed out tickets for all the laptops and LCD's...We got two laptops and a couple of LCD monitors as well...Needless to say a many number of people were pissed off to arrive at the store at precisely 5am and realized they needed a ticket to get any of the items on sale...The faces on these people were priceles...Hey we didn't sleep the whole night and these people expected to get something for their 5am efforts? HA!
