RAZR V3c debuts on Verizon
We knew it was due any day now what with that V3c dummy page up on their site, but today Verizon officially announced the RAZR V3c (aka the CDMA RAZR). As expected, it features EV-DO, a 1.3 megapixel camera, and Bluetooth (though no OBEX, as usual) and you can expect to shell out $199.99 after $100 rebate with two-year contract to get one of these suckers come December 12th - ahh, to give to another, or to buy for oneself? Happy holiday decision making!

I got my LG4400B phone in February 2004. The rule is 22 months, right? I am SOOOOO excited about this phone!
I'm more eh about this phone. I am pretty sure it has the same OS as the e815 and others, as the startup screen appears to be the same as my e815. It has been confirmed from the verizon website that this will not support object exchange. eh?!
what is this deal - "Hey hey, take off another 100 dollars for the "New every two" deal, a $99 Razr isn't bad at all"
wrong info. $299 at the stores TODAY [I just picked up 2] and $100 mail in rebate. Still reading the info packets to figure out how it all works... Speaker phone sucks from what I can tell thus far [no volume]
I got the phone yesterday and could not be more pissed at Verizon. Not only is the Bluetooth crippled, but-- for some inexplicaple reason -- they have also gotten rid of the "Vibrate Before Ring" feature and "Voice Notes." I'm sure just to allow more memory for their stupid V-Cast downloads.
I picked one up a few days ago, it has OBEX, the speaker phone is awesome, overall I would say this is the best phone I have ever used. Definitely worth the $100 I paid for it.
Picked mine up today at BestBuy. If someone knows how to get rid of that HORRIBLE red menu bar, I'd love to know. It sucks. Changing the display settings does not do it.
I have several questions about the V3C:
1. Syncing Data with the Verizon V3C
There is no mention on the Verizon site about software or cables to sync this phone with outlook. MobileAction's software explicitly excludes CDMA. When you go to Motorola's Site and look at the Mobile Phone Tools 3.0 description, it explicitly excludes Verizon from being compatible (but not Alltel). My question is how does a PC user sync Outlook with the Verizon (not Alltel) V3C?
2. Verizon's info includes mention of an "MP3 Player". Is this really true? If so, how do you put MP3s on the phone is OBEX is disabled? If you have the cable, what software do you use to transfer these files?
3. With all of this talk about Verizon's phone crippiling, I began to think that it would be best to get the Alltel version, which is not crippled and is compatible with Motorola's Phone Tools Package. My hesitation is about the VCast feature, which I would expect only to work on the Verizon branded phone. Am I correct?
Thank you in advance for your help. This is by far the best discussion group about the V3C.

I got vzw store to give me two of them for the 99 each price (or said I'd go to the cingular store where it IS 99 each) and they transfrd the phonebooks on each for free - so you know if you go in to get one, they *can* discount more
just wandering if it is possible to make mp3s your ringtone with this phone...if not is it also possible to record a song as a voice memo then send it to yourself and set it as a ringtone...i can do that with my current phone just wandering if its possible for this one
Does anyone know if the alltel version has a modified OS or does it use the OS that Motorola developed. I don't know why people hate the Moto OS, its one of the reasons I have been waiting for this phone!
Just so people are aware, HowardForums has already allowed me to get Vibe Then Ring working, thethered DUN, OBEX and Mobile PhoneTools (PIX,MP3s,Outlook sync) etc.
It's really not as crippled as they lead you to believe. The V3c is a VERY nice phone...
How can I get a Razr for my wife who already has a Verizon contract without paying full retail? The only phones available seem for new contracts only.
ok, so i've been dying to get the verizon V3c, & have been waiting for the price to drop, but now i'm reading that the V3i might be a better phone... if that is your opinion, please advise why?
& what's all this about an "unlocked phone"? how does one acquire an unlocked v3c? & isn't the phone super expensive?
& #60, you're saying that you got the $99 price in the verizon wireless store?? may i ask what store location, so i can mention it when i negotiate?
#64, i believe the name of the game here is ultimatum. call verizon & mention that your wife's phone is terrible & that you keep reading about all these amazing phones that are free, & that you are thinking about switching to Cingular so you too, can get a free Razr phone for her. if they don't hook you up w/a free one, maybe they'll at least discount one more for you. supposedly that stuff works all the time.
I have the v3c, and here are some things that I know work:
You CAN use Bluetooth to sync your contacts and calendar (atleast on the Mac with iSync).
You CAN use Bluetooth to send files to the phone, and retrieve files from the phone. This includes getting pictures off the phone, adding pictures to the phone (to add to a contact at least - I haven't had time to try doing a wallpaper).
You CAN send the phone an MP3 file and use it as a ring tone. I've got one on there that's 2.4 MB. I have not tried AAC, and I doubt protected AAC would work at all.
So far I haven't had a chance to verify some of the other poster's comments on phone-to-phone Bluetooth for contact sharing. I haven't seen anyting on the phone that looks like it would let you, though.
So, that said, I have a couple questions:
1. What's the best Bluetooth headset out there? I need something light, long talk time, and excellent sound quality for the people on the other end of the phone. I bought a Scala 500, which was highly recommended for noise reduction, but people I talk to complain about how much background noise it picks up. I guess the noise reduction is only for wind :) Oh, and it has a dorky blue LED that flashes ALL THE TIME. BRIGHTLY. (seriously, it is an amazingly bright LED which, if you could have it full on, would make a great flashlight)
2. What are some "must have" apps that people use? This is my first BREW phone, so any thoughts would be great.
Chris
Just got my verizon Razr and am not thrilled at all with it, first of all, the Icons in the center of the display cannot be changed, with the exception of the one on the bottom, which the other 3 are for verizon only apps. The contrast and brightness cannot adjusted, the group setting in the contacts list does not allow you to place a call directly from a group as stated in the manual. There are other issues such as the vibrate then ring feature that states in the manual will work. The menu leaves something to be desired it is very comparable to the lg menu but with less adjustablility. Appears that Verizon has once again struck. The camera does work pretty good but is light years behind Korea. I was also told before I bought it that it would be tri-mode which I need occasionally due to extensive travel and get into some analog areas, hence once it arrived and I activated it I was told it is digital only. Had to change plans from Single rate, which I never dropped a call, to Americas Choice? Any way I like the phone and am dissapointed that Verizon has not tried to make the menus and operation of the phone as sleek as its apperance its a shame, I will be sending it back to verizon in the next two days it is not as user friendly as my v710 even though it had crippled bluetooth the rest of the phone worked very well.
#49...Re: the V3 phone book...When you are inputing a new contact, and you want more than 1 entry, put their first number and label it home, work, etc. Then scroll down to more and it allows you to add another number w/a different label. Repeat this process til you have all the contact's locations in.
Just bought my Verizon Razr V3c ($95 through www.wirefly.com). Can anyone definitively tell me if it is possible to sync Outlook? If so, what software?
Thanks!
Has anyone been able to transfer photos from RAZR V3c to a MAC via the bluetooth capabilities
I'm using a Cingular Razr V3 and I can sync, via Bluetooth, my 12in Powerbook with iSync. I have yet to try and sync using a USB cable. Bought it Christmas Eve
I like the phone, I will use it for phone calls and some calendar stuff but I have a pda and a nice, small, camera for the other stuff.
Just bot a Motorola Razr VC3 Verizon model, and believe it has the same bug as the E815, which is that searching for EVDO in poor coverage area uses up battery life too fast -- less than one day.
Has anyone found a fix for this? Does the E815 fix work for the Razr?
Roger - I found that in EVDO areas the battery does die faster than in X1 regular digital area. I spent this past weekend in more rural areas and my battery never seemed to go down. In LA where we have EVDO, my battery drops to 3 bars by the end of the day, even when I don't use the phone.
According to Verizon's website, no OBEX. I heard many Verizon employess say the completely wrong thing, I have the v710, so I should know.
"*The RAZR V3c supports the Wireless Headset & Handsfree Bluetooth Profiles. It does not support Bluetooth object transfer (OBEX) profiles"
The V3c does support OBEX; however, Verizon has disabled this feature so they can charge their subscribers for the data service. PCmag has confirmed this feature on their "test phone", which means the V3c is "technologically capable" of OBEX.
Some users also reported to have V3c with OBEX support.
If you plan to get the V3c, there are mainly two ways of getting an OBEX enabled V3c. One way is to get the unlocked version, the other is to mod. the phone yourself. (note: similar to other electronic devices, modifying the phone means breaking the warranty)

I already know how to turn any song on my iTunes into an MP3 ringtone and then send it to my phone so I can use it. When I had Nextel I bought a program from Ebay that let me transfer ringtones from my computer to my i730 via USB. Is that possible for the Verizon Razr v3c??? Or am I stuck accepting picture messages everytime I want a ringtone. An answer would be greatly appreciated.
