Sony adds still image functions to VRD-MC1 DVDirect burner
Sony has updated its line of DVDirect standalone DVD burners with the VRD-MC1, which adds the ability to save still images from digital cameras in addition to video footage. Like earlier models, the $299 burner includes a Firewire port and the ability to directly control a camcorder during playback, and also adds a memory card reader for Memory Sticks (of course) as well as most other popular card formats. Also included is a 2-inch LCD display that can be used to preview both video footage and still images.

Will the firewire on this work as a DVHS device that I can hook up to my firewire port on my new Mitsubishi 52628 HDTV for recording HDTV shows, etc?

The funny thing about this device is that is DOES have card readers for non-memory-stick cards. Almost all of Sony's products only work with Memory Stick and no other cards. Memory Sticks are more expensive than other kinds of cards, and they're (mostly) only used on Sony products. This constantly turns me away from Sony products. Why can't they just support standards?
