EZon voice-activated home automation system
Chances are you've shouted at your TV, stereo or some other home entertainment device at least once or twice. And the odds are that the unit just sat there, ignoring your command (note: if it actually spoke back, seek. help. now.). Home automation developers have been working to change that, with systems that can respond to voice commands, and Seoul Commtech, a Samsung affiliate, has a system called EZon that looks pretty sweet. The EZon setup includes controllers for just about every electrical device in your home, from lighting systems to air conditioning, all of which can be controlled by a convenient LCD panel. But the system — which is being pre-installed in some Seoul apartment buildings — also responds to voice commands and, according to Commtech, can respond to complete sentences, in addition to basic one-word commands used by earlier systems. Sounds great. Can anyone tell us how to say, "you stupid DVR, you forgot to record Battlestar Galactica again; one more stunt like that and you're through!" in Korean?

That picture looks like it's straight out of a 1960s Disney Epcot Center exhibit on the home of the future.

What I really like about EZON system is that it allows the user to check visitors and operations occurring inside the home from outside. If I had EZON I would use it to check whether children have safely returned from school :)

Let's hope it's better than the speech command in OS-X, which wouldn't follow my instructions unless I spoke them with an American accent.
I'm Australian, btw.
