You know, you never know when you'll have a spontaneous need to project. That's why Samsung is rolling out this
portable SP-P300MK Pocket Imager, a wee little midget of a projector that delivers images at 800 x 600 resolution with
a brightness of 23 ANSI lumens (mmmmm, ANSI lumens). It can operate without external power for about two and a half
hours, great for watching movies that are not LOTR or the entire Roots series. It should be available worldwide in
January at a going price of $800. And look, we got through this whole post without making a cheap joke about being
happy to see you.

Most projectors nowadays have >1200 ANSI lumens.
Yeah... would be great to project pr0n on busstations and other public places har har ...if it was brighter.
Ya, all it needs now is a hard drive so you dont have to have an external source, and of course they or a different company would make an external battery pack that can clip onto the bottom so we can get 2-4 (hopefully) movies in instead of one.
As a projectionist I am insulted.

Ouch, 23 lumens is a joke, barley visible in a completely darkened room. It must use LEDs as the light source.
Yeah forget that 23 lumens is a joke, I got an infocus used with 1300 for 700$ whay would I pay more for so much less? Portability does not a device make. I hope it's a typo, I think a 5watt night-light bulb puts out about 23 lumens...
23 Lumens is gotta be a typo, I mean even a 2D maglite gives around 15 Lumens. And a 1 watt Luxeon LED will give more than 23 lumens...5 watters can go up to as much as 200 lumens. So even if they use LED as the light source, they are either using some very crappy 5mm LED or this is just a typo.
Sure, you can get more lumens for same money. But can it fit in your pocket or operate for 2 hours without external power.
I cannot think of a practical application for the low lumens but the size is a pretty significant improvement for mobility (5 in x 3.72 in x 2 in, and weighs 1.45 lbs). I think that my watch has about 8 lumens.
This thing will only be useful to project an image about 1 ~ 3 feet away.
If I am already luggin a laptop I have a 3000 something lumen optoma that fits right in the same backpack. If they could make that little projector at a much lower pricepoint (say about $300) even if it was not all that bright they would sell a ton I bet. Would be a really cool addition to highend PDA setups. Saw on another site the contrast ratio was 1000:1 not sure what that means exactly though.
Samsung is releasing a ‘mobile theater’ system, the pocket imager will be called the SP-P300MK, expect to see it at CES early next year.
It measures in at 12.7cm and 9.4cm while only weighing 700g. This size and weight is way smaller and lighter than any existing projector out there. It even offers a ceiling projection bracket allowing you to watch a movie or even more comfortably when we you lie down.
An external battery pack is sold separately, it will give you around 2.5 hours of run time. The SP-P300MK can be connected with any AV device and of course, with a desktop PC or notebook. In the plane or train, if about 50m space are guaranteed, you can project a 12 inch screen, and if we have more than 2.8m space, a 63inch big screen. You can aslo produce an outdoor theater with 1000:1 resolution.
The price is set at around US 827.00.

Man, I've been hanging out for LED projectors for a while.
I'd say that 23 lumens is a typo, and even though the LED projectors have a reduced light output, you have to think about the benefits, power consumption, bulb life (10,000 hours they say), heat output (no more noisy fan).
For people who would only use a projector at home in a darkened room anyway, I don't see why this wouldn't be a really good investment seeing as replacement bulbs would be needed less frequently and would be far cheaper.
i didn't believe it either... had to be a typo... but if you follow the link and download the PDF from the german samsung site. sure enough. 23 lumens.
that must be some seriously weak output. unless lumens are on some sort of weird curve where 23 really isn't as lame as it seems it would be.
alright in all fairness, most comments have to be made by people not travelling around...... as a sales or demo tool for travellers....and i am not talking about car or north american travellers, this tool is amazing. No one want to lug around a laptop, a projector, suits, bags and god knows what else. this projector can be slid into a bag without even realizing any addition cargo is with you. I will def purchase this, even if it is half assed, for a guy like me it is priceless, and it just goes to show you where the technology is going. i wont use it for movies, i wont use it for working on a pc, but showing reports, flash animations and basic "get the idea" presentations this piece is a must have for me! i love it

Hehe their advertising photos look like the ipod nano photos. I'm interested in the power figures as well as the light output, this would be a really fun thing to build into a lap top.

No, just dark. Very very dark.
With so many other translation errors, I'm sure the lumens quote is wrong too.

Probably should have added a smiley -- the "grainy" was a reference to the "barley" typo.
