JVC UX-HD1-M mini system with 40GB disk and Ethernet
Today JVC announced their geeked-out UX-HD1-M shelf system with a 4.3-inch color LCD and 2 x 20 watt speakers. The 40GB internal drive allows you to rip CDs into PCM/ATRAC/MP3 formats, while CDDB lookups over the included Ethernet ensures the files are properly tagged. In fact, the UX-HD1-M allows you to hit the Sony (and JVC Victor co-sponsored) ANYMUSIC service direct so our Japanese brethren can purchase and download music straight to the disk. And with DLNA support, you can even stream your MP3s off your PC's disk. They even throw in USB on the front for convenient connection to your like-equipped DAP. Nice. Oh, and 'cause it's Japan you get MiniDisc to bridge the technology gap. No pricing available yet but it'll drop in Japan next month.

Nice! and thankfully no mention of a certain dap manufactured by a certain american company who people cum in their pants for because of their styling cues...
#1 you have sad sad complexes. I recommend therapy to work out your insecurities and unfulfilled realities. This must be the ugliest thing I have ever seen and if you're thankful for it, you may just be the only one with serious issues to overcome.
Who wants to bet #2 is an Apple fanboy?
Wonder what's the price on this thing?
not that i'm complaining, but how many ways to you need to access your mp3s? between the unit's hd, your mp3 player, your computer, and the option of ripping on machine, ripping on your own computer, or buying from the online store... it's all kinda redundant. i suppose this machine would be best suited in a situation where you have access to the internet, but no access to a computer on which you could store mp3 files (such as the office)
there was no mention of it, but i'm assuming you can store already ripped mp3s on the hd (not just stream)
#2 - I suppose since it wasn't designed by that certain american computer manufacturer, it's useless because it doesn't look "pretty"
oh please
I like devices like these for the functionality, not the looks.
#2 - yo, bud... you're not wearing this thing around your neck... it sits on your desk/bookcase/etc. So chill with "style is everything." It sounds like a great idea for a machine. Might not fit into the Ikea catalog, but it would look ok in my humble pad. Wonder how much this costs?
That is sweet. I wonder if it can rip from the MiniDisc like it can the CD. (Although I'm probably the only person in the US that would care about such a feature)
Oh, and I don't think #2 was trying to say it needed to be "more apple" he was just laughing that someone would feel compelled to bring up apple to complain about how apple keeps getting mentioned.
As an apple user through the lean years, the fact that apple is even relevant enough to warrant mention tickles me to no end.
if this thing can tune netradios its a winner!
#8:
I too care about the ability to rip music from the MD.
While living in Japan, I rented CD's from Tsutaya every week and copied them to MD.
I'd LOVE to have my 400+ MD collection moved to my computer so I can copy it to a DAP (Not a "Fanboy" but I've got a 40gig iPod) or stream them on my shoutcast server...
Add DVD playback and Divx/Mpeg4 from HDD to play either the LCD display and video out. Include ethernet for streaming A/V. Add browser, office, etc... Nevermind, defeats the purpose for this product as is.
I have a Victor mini from Japan. Wish I got a Denon instead for a few bucks more.
#8, im from the uk but im with you on the ripping from md's. Ive got about 90 full discs with no way but the slow way to copy the material. And I have to keep the clunky minidisc players around. Mind you, the n91 isnt out yet, so I dont mind sticking with md for a while longer.
How come all the new MD units coming out in Japan refuse to implement Hi-MD? The specs say it can rip into PCM, which the Hi-MD can record in as well, including the MDLP formats.
A color screen AND hard disk drive...
is this thing crying to be Linux-hacked or what? Control your home theater from your stereo. Wow what a concept!
No Bonjour (formerly known as Rendezvous)?? It's Open Source and has Zero Configuration it's supported by iTunes.
I like it! If it sounds good, even better! MDs, LCD, HD, USB, internet, hackable; all the geeky things rolled into one. Plesae let this be under $400 & available to the USA soon!
