Pioneer BRD-101A Blu-ray burner officially announced
Pioneer just officially announced their DRC-101A Blu-ray burner we told
you about back in August. This OEM-targeted burner/player is capable of hitting up both DVD±R/RWs and
Blu-ray's beefier 25GB next gen optical format. Sure, it's not available for purchase but it's still good to see
genuine product announcements as 2006 nears. Expect to see much more on Blu-ray and HD-DVD as
vendors begin to unveil their offerings at CES next week.

wow
I'll be happy if it brings the cost of double layer media down.
anyone know around how much these things are gonna cost?
I'm not psychic or anything, but I guess they are going to cost a lot :)
I bought a 2x CD-R burner for $300 back in the day (which still works, but is no longer used), so I am thinking way more than that :(
Make it burn HD-DVD too! *Shakes fist*
The referenced article says that this drive will be capable of burning 25 GB BR discs at 75Mbps. That speed would be comparable to a 56x CD-R. But according to this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluray , the quoted speed falls inbetween 1x and 2x BR drives. Is this drive a 1.5x BR drive? Or do we need to update our expectations?
Finally I can put a whole days worth of porn on 1 disk. We'll until HD takes over...
