Kodak EasyShare V570 gets official

Check it: remember those pics of the EasyShare V570, that new dual-lens, five megapixel digital camera we had some sneaky pics of back in August? Yeah, well Kodak officially announced the camera today. The big selling point for this one is obviously the dual Scheneider-Kreuznach C-Variogon lenses, one is a 5x optical zoom lens, the other's a 23mm ultra-wide angle lens, which Kodak claims makes this the widest angle consumer digital camera on the market. The slick part is that the camera can seamlessly move between both lens depending on how much zoom you're looking for -- you don't have to press any buttons to use one lens or the other, you just zoom in and out as you normally would. The EasyShare V570 also has a 2.5-inch LCD screen, 32MB of internal storage, an SD memory card slot, and automatic red-eye reduction, and should hit stores later this month with a retail price of $399. Hope this camera is as good as it sounds, and that it will soon come out in Europe. Happy 2006, all!

The dual-lens idea is very nice, as is the retro styling. Just hope the picture quality and everything else will match.

Non-extendable lenses make me wonder if this thing could survive a few minutes in the rain. Would be great to see a truly waterproof version, a la the Pentax Optio WPi. Like the retro looks, but I really like the big screen.

Does it play gameboy micro games too?

this looks like a nice camera, but why are people mentioning its "retro" look? exactly how does this camera look retro? are you people comparing it to the old Kodak Disc cameras? if that's the case, i'd consider that a bad thing.

I like the concept. I hate the design.

Just so everyone's aware, it's 5x optical zoom because the high end (117mm) is about 5x the ultrawide lens (23mm). The zoom lens is actually a 3x lens that's the same as any other digital 3x (39-117mm). So you're not getting any more zoom out of it compared to any other 3x camera even though it is a "5x" zoom. I was really excited about this camera too until I figured that out. It still looks like a nice set of specs--just be aware of what you're really purchasing if you were in the market for a >3x zoom.

retro.... looks like...
a casio portable tv from ages ago
an old walkman
a twin lens reflex camera (well, doesn't really look like one)

$399? You've got to be kidding.
My Z740 is now cheap as dirt and has 10x+2 optical zoom, takes movies, will accept conventional lenses. An extra hundred bucks is a lot to pay for less (even if it's size)

Well, I am mad a Kodak. I get a hot new V550, and they release this. Oh well, at least it is not replacing the V550, and it is 100 bucks more, so in the end, I'm not really bad. I am just disappointed. I still love my v550 with the SAME screen size.
