iRiver's G10: more deets on the WiBro'in game console
We finally got a
pic and a few more specs on iRiver's G10 WiBro game
console we told you about a few months back. If our Babelrean is any good, then it appears like iRiver's "PSP
killer" will sport an 800 x 480 pixel 260k color display, pack in 4 or 8GB of storage, and run Windows CE 5.0.
Looks like it'll be on display at CES so we'll be sure to track this one down for ya. Another pic after the break.
Update: According to our friend Jason, that WiBro connection will not only be used for online gaming and game downloads, but also provide access to a new iRiver music and movie service allowing subscribers to purchase content, store it in provided webspace, and then stream it to their G10.
[Thanks, James]

2.) that lame handheld GPX2304 SUXEDDOOoRz u know that crap with linix or whatever was on it... didnt that tank? ya, it tanked really hard.
This will in no way compete with either the PSP or DS. This looks like it may catch people who enjoy the Sidekick and other goofy toys like that. 260K colors, not great. PSP has, like, 6 million. 260 is close to GBA. Hey, more power to inventing sweet new gadgets. Its safe to assume this thing may sell just over a million units. Some people have to have all new goodies, and some people want to be different. This is made for them.
lol a windows gaming handheld? hopefully this will surprise the crap out of me..
"3.) wtf "iRiver" is not a catchy name, you would be luky to fool middle class 40 year old mid life crises balding men trying to be cool and have somthing with their ipod nano. the iriver isnt that special."
Nice... too bad iriver is a company that's been around since 1999... whereas the first iPod came out around 2001. The name of the device is the G10.
windows based pdas can run an nes snes gba arcade genesis gb gbc beogeo and any handheld system made perfectly. That is already quite a library right there. I would buy a psp only if they make some better games. i only see 3 good games. Gta, tony hawk, and Valkyrie Profile
ok, the psp can run a host of emulators for various consoles... the only ones i care about are genesis, snes, nes, mame and neo geo CD and cartridge AES... and lets face it, anything else dosent really matter.
wooo iRivers name was before ipod... first of all i think ipod can blow 2 hell. second of all, i dont care where who got what name from.
socom on psp is pretty sweet especially for a handheld.
the sims for psp, i like that being very portable...
untold legends, i love diablo2+lod and naturally i
love all diablo clones
mercury is a really fun and challenging puzzle game
burnout legends is a great race car game.
starwars battlefront2... again great for a handheld.
and of course you have the games you mentioned.
i have the 4gb hdd for my psp and the thing is great. i have lots of music and game images and roms and movies loaded all over the thing... i loooove it.
gaming technology is advancing, grafix wise... how long do you think iRiver will keep up with it and how upgradable do you think it is? you wont have a good host of devolopers developing for it because well... IT SUCKS. mainly the dpad screws it up.
anyways what you dont understand is about 90% of the handheld gaming community are "average" users... the psp meets all their expetations and more. but of course im sure you all know what you can do with a 1.5 firmware psp and also the 2.0 version is about 87% cracked... the only way iRiver can poke its nose in the handheld world is by offering a beefy powerfull system with a bunch of features and a very low price. so far iriver is both weak and expensive.
u dont even know what that game is how would u even know its a mario kart clone. And if it is, then basically every single game on earth is a clone to something created a decade ago. BF2 is just a clone of first persons shooters oh noe lets not play it. nfs is a clone of the first racing game every created.(i like BF2 im not dissing it)
the G10 is most likely being realeased ONLY in Korea so it really doesnt matter to us. Why? cuz we dont have wibro and we probably wont until another 10 years. The players not even fully completed and the pics above are not the final product, iriver is still changing the design from peoples requests. So the Dpad may or may not be fixed in the final release.
Oh, and the PSP screen has huge amounts of ghosting, u cant play anything on it without it hurting your eyes. The sound on the psp is also shit how the hell do you even listen to music on it. However, iriver players are some of the best sounding you can get. Makes the ipods sound like AM radio.
schweet! i would like one of these - largely because its WM5.0 and slidey - kinda like a poor-er man's OQO

I think it would be better if instead of comming out the bottom, the controls were split (half and half) and came out the sides to look somewhat like a psp, just more portable, better memory... it would fix almost all the problems people are whining about.
Where can we suggest this to the company?
This change would allow for roomier controls and an attachable keyboard on the bottom. what do ya think?

The PSP sucks. If I wanted something for media, I'd do with an Ipod. If I wanted games, I'd go for a DS. I could care less about "grafix". If a game has shitty gameplay with the greatest graphics I've ever seen, I don't want to play it. Fuck graphics.
The PSP is a piece of shit (which is no big surprise coming from Sony). Now if it actually gets some games that are worth my cash (don't bother mentioning any of that shit you said above, as I have tried most of them and don't like them or would rather have their console counterparts) then that may change my view on it. But for now, it is worthless.
