JVC rolls out new Everio lineup
JVC's HDD
based Everio line has always been promising, but you know we're
always pining for more room for video, especially in a camera with no way to swap in more media when you're running out
of space. Well they're giving up the good stuff with their new 30GB GZ-MG37 and MG77 cameras, and to a lesser extent
with the 20GB MG21 and MG27. No HD in sight -- unlike the Sanyo HD1 we spied
today -- but the top of the line MG77 rocks a 2.3 megapixel CCD, a 2.7-inch LCD, and a 10x optical zoom, while everyone
else does the 32x for zoom but with sadder 680k CCDs. At the highest quality, the 30GB models record 7 hour of video,
while the 20GB version scores you 4.5 hours. Not too shabby, but you know how we do, we're already tapping our toes for
some 100GB perpendicular drives up in these.

When should we expect the flash based video cameras that we have been hearing so much about???

3CCD version would be the ultimate. The first company to make a 3CCD HDD camcorder has my money in the bank.

Here's a thought: Swapable HDs. Put the HD in a cassette of some sort and swap them when one gets full.
Make that the first *affordable, non-crippled* 3CCD HDD camcorder.
Not to burst everyones bubble, but there is a 3CCD Everio camcorder. Unfortunatly for you and I, like distantbody pointed out, its crippled. It comes with a 4GB microdrive capable of a whole 60 minutes of footage at full quality. Albeit removeable instead of carrying around a pile of DV tapes your forced to carry around a pile of microdrives. Keep in mind that when youre out in the field or on vacation and you need a new DV tape you can easily pick up decent quality ones at your nearest 7-11, Wallgreens, etc.

Congrats to JVC for making the first 3CCD vaporware camcorder.
BTW the 30GB model is apparently very good & from a review of it I read in Stuff, or Maxim (one of those softcore porn/gadget magazines my brother subscribes to) The Devils Rejects was shot on one & Rob Zombie gave it high recommendations. Apparently you can even edit your footage on the camera.
