MOTO has a new FRND for the
ROKR,
RAZR, and
PEBL. Called the TXTR, this portable Bluetooth/serial keyboard is meant
to minimize incidences of the dreaded SMS thumb and allows owners to message one another sans phone using the built-in
LCD screen. Of course if you're a big texter, you probably should have bought a phone with some QWERTY action in the
first place, but if you want to fill your pockets with extra stuff, that's your prerogative. Motorola promises 24-hours
of texting madness with a single charge, a claim we'll be able to test sometime in the first half of the year.

Any idea if we'll be able to use this as a regular bluetooth keyboard for other devices such as pdas? I'm assuming that would be the case, but you never know these days, especially after the whole moto/vzw/v710 affair from last year.

It's funny how difficult 5 and sometimes 6 vowels can be for some companies...

Too bad it looks like a 1980's calculator... hot.

seriously, give the 4 letter words a rest before poeple start using other 4 letter words to describe them!

Anyone have any idea how big that thing actually is? I don't think I would want to be carrying that in my pocket. It's just like carrying a PDA with a keyboard but being even less useful.

Well, if it aint to big, I'd prolly get it. I wonder if it'd work with email? Maybe it could be hacked to do so (or a hack on the bluetooth side with a pc maybe)... That would make my day.
Maybe Motorola would be nice enough to make it work with pop/smtp? hint! hint! if you're reading Motorola.
And believe me, every phone on the market that has a keyboard has a catch, whether it's price of lack of clamshell form. Maybe I'm too picky...

Well, I agree with mabs. If this thing turns out to be at least okay-looking, lightweight and small I'll probably pick one up as long as the price is reasonable.
As much as I love the V3, I have to admit that it probably has the worst text editor I have ever seen. I don't really mind carrying another device since I don't plan on stuffing this thing in my pockets. I suppose it could be a nice-to-have gadget when you're in a meeting or something and can't use the phone.
I think in the end it'll come down to how much exactly they're charging for this thing since it's nice-to-have and all, but pretty much useless (most people who are into texting already own QWERTY phones, however flawed they might be, or just use Sidekicks).
