Now that Intel dropped the "Intel Inside"
campaign, will T-Mobile pick up the slogan? Probably not, but based on their recent news to subsidize laptops in
Germany for up to 500 euros, you have to wonder. The strategic deal isn't radically different than
other cellular
carriers helping to sell laptops with their high-speed data functions until you realize that T-Mobile will actually
sell these HSDPA-enabled laptops. With a subsidy of up to 500 euros per notebook, some models could conceivably
cost as little as a current 3G-capable phone selling for 100 euros. Hey, if the strategy seems to work, perhaps T-Mobile
will spread some
HSDPA laptop
love over here? No word on which laptops will get the super-speedy signal treatment.
I live in Germany at the moment, and they are just now catching on with the Sidekick II, interesting how they are picking up on this before the US, not to mention cell phone service costs a, well for a lack of better words, a "butt load". If I see anything out I'll keep you guys posted.
a computer is a computer. If its wireless, you can bet on it being sold anywhere possible.
Im suprised T-Mobile didnt do this when Wifi was a standard on laptops, considering they have the largest hotspot network in this country.
A little late but, what the hell. Im all for it, subsidy laptops, that is ;)
These HSDPA-enabled laptops are probably built by fujitsu Siemens.http://www.golem.de/0512/42352.html
let me guess... 50€ a month for 18 months contract required?
I work as a photo-journalist without a laptop and I am considering buying some pigeons (though a cheap laptop would be welcome!).
How would T-mobile sell HSDPA laptops in the US when it is my understanding that they lack the spectrum required to run their GSM/GPRS network along with a UMTS network. Have they even launched EDGE data service on their GSM networks yet?
