The Engadget CES army hit up CES Unveiled and got our chance to cop a feel on the ROKR E2. Fortunately, you get to be the peeping tom, thanks to the addition of the Engadget Video Gnome. While we weren't crazy about the E1 for sure, the E2 did get rid of some of our previous ROKR pet peeves. Check the vid for the full review.

Willy Wonka @ Jan 5th 2006 7:18PM
Without iTunes it's worthless.
MD @ Jan 5th 2006 7:22PM
Looks like this ROKR may not suck.
Key word here is "may".
I am holding off final judgement till it is released.
JREAU @ Jan 5th 2006 7:24PM
Dude... Get a manicure
just kidding. keep up the good work man. I love CES coverage.
Carlos @ Jan 5th 2006 7:24PM
Nice Engadget graphics on the video :)
But as for the phone, I'm saying the design is rather ugly and from the picture above, why does it look like OS X so much (the tabs and the fluid-ey blue progress bar) if it doesn't run iTunes? But anyway, I'm saying too little too late, the N91 is a better music phone and is already out, but costs a boatload.

Most un-attractive.
In un-related complaining, the comments system seems to show more comments on the news page than there actually are, perhaps it's counting total comments, instead of just activated comments.

Those hands are not very sexy...
Key word here is "not".
JREAU @ Jan 5th 2006 7:29PM
I was just hatin' cause I can't be at CES this year :(
Oh by the way, that phone is ugly as hell. W/O iTunes, what's the point?
Lars Groeger @ Jan 5th 2006 7:37PM
Man i will no longer care ....they have some really smart phones in there Line....but what do they do they try to sell us there second best design as an MP3 phone ....leave me alone
tiuk @ Jan 5th 2006 7:52PM
Looks like white LEDs are the new blue.
mike @ Jan 5th 2006 8:54PM
um.. is it supposed to look like the apple website?
Luis Moro @ Jan 5th 2006 8:58PM
I don't get it. There is an iTunes button on the phone but they didn't bother putting the iTunes software on it? What's the point?
vardyr @ Jan 6th 2006 1:26AM
There is no iTunes button on the phone; in the music world, we call that a "note."
Forcing people to use iTunes was a terrible idea from the start. I wish they would make it mountable as a standard USB storage drive for those of us who would like to use it without being forced to use specific (buggy) software.
What's so special about iTunes on a phone, anyway? Can I get Winamp on my phone? Speaking of which, is it really iTunes on the ROKR E1? I would've though it was software created to mimick the software found on iPods, not another buggy port of a native OS X application. Oh, wait, it is.

Indeed, hideous phone. My Samsung Uproar looked better and played mp3s without using precious ITUNES. But that was before provider/manufacturer/ITMS monetization.
Red Hot Chili Pepper @ Jan 6th 2006 5:17AM
I wonder if they're actually trying to NOT sell this thing... hmm
And here I would like to quote a wise man named Bubba Sparks: UGLEEEEEE!
Steve @ Jan 7th 2006 12:16PM
I agree, it's not a "GREAT" looking phone (
Treysteruk @ Jan 7th 2006 4:09PM
For a 'smart' technology company, Motorola seem to employ some pretty stupid people! As a potential consumer in the market for an Cell + MP3 combo, I will break it down for them....
RAZR + MP3 player (With 500+ song storage) + headphone jack + dedicated player buttons = WILL FLY or
SLVR + MP3 player (with 500+ song storage) + headphone jack + dedicated player buttons = WILL FLY
ROKR, with or without itunes = LAME DUCK. Simple!

I for one am GLAD that they dumped iTunes...forget that proprietary format. Besides, iRadio offers a commercial free, XM-like experience that iTunes can't currently match.
I also don't think the phone is *that* ugly. What am I missing, what is so objectional about a small bar style phone? For those who want a RAZR MP3 phone...how long do you think a battery in a phone that thin will last playing MP3 files
