Give them an inch: Matsushita ups the ante with 103-inch plasma
The sign in Samsung's booth at CES may still boast that the company has the "world's first" 102-inch plasma TV, but rivals Matsushita Electric Industrial (AKA Panasonic) have added a whopping inch to their biggest display, giving them (for now at least) the title of world's largest plasma. Unveiled at CES, the prototype display has a 1920x1080 resolution and a 3,000:1 contrast ratio. And now that they've been beaten, we hear that Samsung is going to leave that 102-incher out with the trash when they vacate CES this weekend.

Tss... serves Samsung right.
I know I'd throw my 102-inch plasma TV out straight away upon hearing this.
I love panasonic!
Where's the Samsung trash bin???
I prefer the 102 inch model; A hundred and three inches is a bit too much.
But is it 1080p?
Well, If they're just going to throw it out, I'll run over there and take it off their hands for them. Just trying to help.
What a vulgar Display..... of wealth. Where do I get mine? Truly the angry inch.
quality, not quantity here folks...so i will stick to Pioneer's amazing Purevision 61 inch Pro1410 any day.
Sorry folks. Old Technology. Toshiba unveiled their SED Technology at CES http://gear.ign.com/articles/679/679235p1.html promising contrast ratios of 100,000:1!!!
Great How Much And Where Do I Get One or Two?
Well sometimes one more inch could come in handy.
i cant even afford a 30" flat screen.... ungreatful arnt we..
like the ladies say every inch counts hahahahahahahaha were can i get on to
!03 inches? BFD, With all the crap on TV why in the world would you spend the money on this. It's the same shit on 103 inches as it is on a 27 inch TV. I figure I'll take the 3 + grand they wnat for the 103 inch TV and have some fun wioth it.
yes, the story fails to advertise a price. i'd like to build a small house out of these suckers.
More than an eye full is a waste anyway
You mean my 102 inch is old news already? Alright, where do I find the 103 inch?? And what's the price tag??
102 or 103 inch what's the difference until they can be produced at a reasonable price that everyone can afford they are useless.
If your going to buy Japanese, might as well stick with the best, SONY!!
oooo, wow, 103 inches. thats a big feat, they beat the old record by an inch, id say its worth it to buy it. ive got the 102 inch and now that i know about the 103 incher, this 102 inch just seems like a surveillence tv! haha, not, waste of time. i could watch the same crap thats on tv on a 35 inch. eh? good job idiots....
I agree with F LUDU (#13). Why would one want to see more of the same "old crap", larger than "life"
SONY XBR 60 DOES ME JUST FINE....NOW I JUST HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO MY SON WHY HE HAS TO PAY FOR HIS FIRST 2 YEARS OF SCHOOL HIMSELF.....HA HA
Great for my baywatch collection!
Hmm.. so when are the going "Big Screen" with these? I mean in theaters?
I got your 103"...hangin
gotta love david haselhoff haha. I bet with that 103 inch tv you can count all the hairs on his chest. Thats just hot..lol jk.
103" wow!! I have plasma envy!
I'm glad panasonic came out with something bigger and better than the hi tech sony lets them know they can also achieve, love the idea because I love panasonic but wish I can afford it keep up the good work right own. Panasonic.
Toshiba wants to come out bigger, they better fix their problems on their existing lines, they suck...
I guess size does matter!
I can just see those discarded 102 inchers on my sidewalk...huck
103" has nothing on me ( Dirk )
GOLLY! How exciting! If I had one for each wall in my apartment, I could really get immersed in tv programs!!!
In this case "Bigger is Better" I want one...
Is it worth the extravagant price?
It's funny everyone wows over this marvel. but let's break this down. contrast ratio: By whos standards have they been measured to? An outside party or each manufacturers own reference points. In the industry today there needs to be a standard reference to which this is measured. Size is cool but resolution is what matters. The larger the screen the higher the resolution needs to be. Lets compare apples to apples and see who really wins? What is really funny, in a few years LCD's with DLP technology will be advanced enought to surpass the plasma TV. Then we will be seeing who will make the largest LCD haha
Once again...they make something for the rich. Show me these types of accomplishments when the make it affordable for the average middle class citizen. Other wise it's just hype. Or maybe they should drop their price a grand on old models every inch they gain...now wouldn't that be some shit
im happy with my 27' no name brand tv for everyone buys this they should reconsider and help me pay for my wedding 103' is overrated anyways
103 inches, yeah that's really usefull! It'll come in handy when I want to see a life size image of "feed the children" starving kids in Africa.Hey I know, why don't the egomaniacs at panasonic put their brain power to more humanitarian efforts, all 103 inches of it!
Hey Doug, Ur in denial, size does matter, ask any woman. No one verbalizes it but everyone's thinking it....I'm just imagining what porn must look like on this thing!!
If I don't like the crap that's on now, why would I want it bigger? Why would I decorate my home with a huge TV. Bigger ISN'T ALWAYS better!
My 102-inch plasma is just a sick joke. I'm not gonna be able to show my face around town with out the latest 103- inch *rolls eyes*
Would be more beneficial if they put more time and thought into how they can better satisfy the customers wants and needs rather than trying to out due the competition by 1 inch...lol
Yes, 103 inches is quite an achievement for a Plasma, but this is not this best to be put out to the public by far. I have a relative that works for Panasonic, he worked on the designs for this technology. He said they did this to try and outbeat Toshiba's new SED displays. With a promising 100,000:1 ratio, but they have not set a release date. SED is alot more powerful then Plasma or LCD. It never overheats, a .000056 reaction time at about 100-103 frames per-second. Plasma and LCD well be put to shame very soon...
(Check out more info. on the SED at http://gear.ign.com/articles/679/679235p1.htmlYes, 103 inches is quite an achievement for a Plasma, but this is not this best to be put out to the public by far. Hey F ludu check your spelling next time, you look like an IDIOT.(wnat)want-(wioth)with.
Eh, next they will come out with a 104" yeah thats neat who cares unless your rich. Mise well put a theater in your house if your gonna buy something so big. Add a popcorn machine while your at it. Invite Puff Daddy and Tom cruise and Watch your self on MTV. Maybe watch the Paris Hilton sex tape.lol.
I find it funny that some of you have plasma envy! Why dont you ask your wife is she happy with her big tv! LOL Dont be a hater... Good for those that can afford it.
as for as t.v's go its a nice one as all them or. but many of us can't even afford a 20 inch not because we choose not to but hey maybe if bush give better help to his own country maybe even the Wages would go up to help the less fortunate. but like i say great t.v for a size as for as any of them Money talk's Bull shit walks. since i am not wealth .Rather pay my bills
If I want to see something that big or bigger ... I just go to the movies. Being a college student one does not have money to waste on 103 inch anyting.
Why make something that 80% of us can't afford? I am happy with my 32 inch flat screen. If ONLY they can make a Plasma for under $1000 I would snatch one up. The world needs more important problems solved than who has the biggest TV. Grow up and think about the consumer and what is logical. An extra inch??? Wow! If the 102" is being thrown away just send it to me so I can sell it and pay off some bills!!
I Could only imagine how much this thing cost. Can anyone afford it?
