Where's the new iPod? Apple where are you?
John seemed really amped about the new Gigabeat. It looks alright, although I'm not feeling the silver so much. The GUI on the F-series looked nicer than the new Microsoft PMC GUI. I would also like to have a black version in the 30gig capacity.
More videos please! Also, it looks nice, but the issue is that Microsoft still hasn't come out with software like iTunes. That's the secret to the iPod.

So, would you need to be running Windows Media Center to place content on it? Sorry if it's a stupid question, but I'm a Tivo guy and want to get my Tivo stuff on it (assume the DMR is stripped off).

While it looks promising, I have to say I never found the Gigabeat series to be very responsive to the touch, or is that just me? When you press a button it seems to have a 1 second delay before it responds.. That could very well be the difference between a good and bad product.
miles,if it is like other PMCs, it will play movie files, as well as microsofts dvr-ms recorded tv shows. tivo files stripped of any drm should play fine on it
Sony and Apple should come together and make the greatest product that this world has ever seen. With both of their great designs, and if they sucked Gates cock and got Plays for Sure DRM, this world would be a better place. Tu sabes
Definitely cool to see the video interview, but you'll need to work on normalizing the audio please. My ears are bleeding slightly. :)

What formats does it play for video? That is my biggest concern with waiting of this or getting a vision m now.
Cool that there was a video review - but the camera man... sheesh... Even though we love Peter's mug... there is no need to go back an forth between the speaker and and Mr. Rojas. Be sure to stick with the speaker or, rather, stay on the device itself... who cares what the person looks like who is describing the DEVICE. I need to see the gadget pr0n!

response to #5: You will find that the Toshiba PMC Gigabeat S-Series is very responsive to user input. There is no noticeable delay.
response to #13: The Gigabeat S supports only WMV. Windows Media Player will transcode other formats to play back on the PMC.
jeez engadget, props for the video but damn, this is engadget after all, show us the damn gadget, not the guys face the whole time, i wanted to see its automatic video tilting thing and wanted to see if it was stutter free. no audio menu was shown either, me sad....
was that a normal mini-usb plug at the bottom? yippe. that shit needs to become standard in everything, proprietary cables suck (i have an 60gig ipod w/vid) this device looks really promising and will surelly look into it and sell my ipod on ebay asap
Finally, a (possibly) legitimate iPod contender. Not an iPod killer cuz I'm pretty sure there's no such thing, nor will there be in the forseeable future. Way to much momentum and frankly a damn good product in the first place. But put enough corporate muscle (Micro$oft, Toshiba, MTV, etc...) around a good product, AND priced competitively to boot... there's finally some hope for serious iPod competition that sadly, I don't believe we'll get from the Creative Zen Vision:M.
anyone heard if the S series will have voice recording or a FM tuner (both lacking on the F series)? Also, will it now only support WMP10 (there are many reports that the current gigaroom software for the F series sucks a$$)?
I kinda sucks that it will transcode everything into WMA's - that means unavoidable loss of quality since you're not taking the sound from the original source.
Would it really have killed MS to allow MP3 playback as well?
