Mac fans, good news! TiVo's not the only company
with
early-release video software on Apple
boxes -- in addition to today's comprehensive keynote coverage, it's come to our attention that Sling Media's going to
be showing off the Mac version of their SlingPlayer software today for Macworld. Granted, it's still an alpha, so we
doubt they'll be releasing it to the public sooner than their Q2 release target, but it's quite more than enough to
whet the respective appetites of our Mac-usin' place-shiftin' staff 'round the office, that's for sure.

It may be just me but... why is there a Tivo logo on the Sling software remote? Is there something goigin on between Sling and Tivo? An announcement to be maybe?
Sheetzam @ Jan 10th 2006 8:38AM
The Slingbox is set up to control a Tivo, so they use the remote that looks like a Tivo. That simple. If it were a different device, it would have that device's logo.

Now I need a sling box. :( The Tivo logo is just because the person is using a Tivo with their sling box. The sling box software has a virtual remote for the TV.

After 22 years of M$oft, I bought my 1st Mac after the debut of the Mini at last year's MacWorld. And never looked back. I'm likely to get the next iteration -- hopefully introduced today.
Using DirecTV [and then DirecTiVo] since their 3rd month on the street -- awaiting the networkable version this year -- my other hope is that it will be Open to the next generation of Mac computers.
Rock On!

The SlingPlayer software allows you to remote control (via IR blaster) your home AV component. In this case and on Windows, they've added the TiVo logo to the remote graphic if you're controlling a TiVo at home. It probably isn't officially sanctioned, but it looks cool!

fugly remote - why do they do that?
tmd @ Jan 10th 2006 10:33AM
Interesting. Tivo logo on the remote, but Microsoft's failed Ultimate TV shown on the display.

When I think of all the cool programs I never want to miss C-SPAN is right there at the top. I really like that one part where the politician drops his pen on the floor and we get to watch them look for it.
C-SPAN: your chemical free cure for insomnia.

Hi,
Just wanted to let our SF-based Engadget readers know that we'll be doing a demo of the Mac version of the Slingbox software today in the Starbucks at 4th and Mission in San Francisco. We should be here until about 5:00pm. Sorry for the late notice, but this was the first I was able to say something!
Best,
Jeremy

I just bought a SlingBox yesterday from Circuit City. It was easy as 1-2-3 setup and I was up and running less than 15 minutes. It's a brilliant product... Good job SlingMedia Geeks and the Think Tanks....
