HP Pavillion dv8000z 17-inch laptop reviewed
Mobility Guru has
spent no less than 35 pages dissecting HP's new dv8000z laptop, a monster of a unit with a 17-inch display. The verdict
is mostly good, with the laptop getting high-marks for its desktop-like keyboard and all the extra stuff that HP was
able to fit in thanks to all that extra space (even a remote control hidden in the PC Card slot). The dv8000z also
includes two 2.5-inch hard drives, although they only run at 4,200 rpm. It loses a few a marks, however, for the
underpowered ATI Radeon Xpress integrated graphics, and the lack of one of the only things it ought to have: an
integrated TV tuner. Prices start at around $1000 direct from HP.

You've just been out done engadget. That site sure wins the award for worst ratio of content to advertisement space for its viewers.

So let me get this straight... they include a remote control but no integrated TV tuner? I'm too lazy to go chech HP's website, but hopefully it is an upgrade option.

Ok, just checked their website... no tv tuner option.
Some of the retarded (for lack of a better term) options I see on some of the major manufactures' systems befuddles the mind.

#3- You'd be wrong about there not being a tv tuner option. On the second page of customization under specialty accessories, you can order a new Express Card TV Tuner for 179.99.

My HP DV1040 also has a remote and its only a 14" wide-screen, so I am not that impressed as far as that goes.

Yeah. Just don't knock off the crappy rubber feet HP is putting on their laptops these days. They fit into a tight indentation in the bottom so you can't use other feet, their height leaves them well proud of the case, and they seem to use a rather disappointing adhesive. Oh, and they don't sell replacements, even for currently shipping product.
Hate to have you read a thirty-five page review, buy a laptop thinking you were diligent, and then be stuck with a wobbly computer two months later.

That notebook has been out for.... oh, about 1.5 years now.
Good on ya for the prompt review, though!

#7- The notebook was actually released less than four months ago according to this http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2565.
"Good on ya" for the foolish comment.

"and then be stuck with a wobbly computer two months later."
That means don't drag the computer along a hard surface multiple times and unconsciencely try to pick them off. I picked one off one day unknowingly and went to walmart, get some special adhesive out of the office supply section, and walla.
