KC Bearifone teddy bear speakerphone
With all the "real" news today,
it's about time for a totally goofy, gimmicky product. Well the KC Bearifone certainly fits the bill, because what is
more pointless than a speakerphone shaped like a teddy bear? How about a bear-shaped phone that moves its mouth and
eyes in response to a caller's voice? Sorry, KC, you're no Teddy Ruxpin. Available immediately if you feel like
throwing away $150.

I'm thinking this would be an excellent tool for freaking out dogs, drunk persons, and small children. If you're into that sort of thing.

That's certainly not a new product, as I was given that exact same "teddyphone" in the 80s! I've still got him somewhere.

So, wait... do you talk into its crotch?

Graham Norton ( http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/G/graham/ ) has been using the very same phone on his show for a long while. I believe he also has some sort of dog version of the phone as well, since one time he called up two people and had the two phones "talk" to each other.

Dude! Commodore was giving these away for free at last years IFA in Berlin!
And you're telling me this thing is worth 150$?

I'm with the engadget staff, no Teddy Ruxpin... anyone else have one? I'll never forget the day he got alzheimers. Started talking like a drunk retard all the time. Gosh I miss that bear...

Okay, this thing would be totally worth it, if it allows you to do two things:
1. Turn off the ringer
2. Set it to auto-answer
With the teddy-phone sitting on the living room couch, and your web-cam on, you can inject the appropriate amount of terror into anyone in camera range.
Gimmee.

Hey! I remember Teddy Ruxpin. What happened to that bear?
Sven @ Jan 11th 2006 3:06PM
I too had this exact thing, down to the plaid vest, years and years ago. I guarantee i didn't pay no $150 for it. About $25-$30 would have been my limit at the time.
