Sony displays iPod controller at CES
There are a few things you might expect from a Sony CES booth tour -- such as pimpin' laptops, Blu-ray paraphernalia, and the perpetually conceptual PS3 design -- but you really don't expect them to be flaunting an iPod accessory out in the open. Well ATRACLife beheld just such a sight, spying Sony's iPod "Xplod" Car Adapter, the XA-110IO. The Sony reps seemed to think it was just as odd as we do, and it just goes to show the current war inside Sony to make relevant products without hurting other divisions of the sprawling company -- looks like their auto accessories peeps won this battle!

Muhahahahahaha (strokes evil cat)
They too shall worship the GREAT Ipod and next they shall make the Sony Play-Yan.

Let's just hope it's better integrated than their XM radio adapter.

About time more of the manufacturers are getting on the boat. Can anyone reccomend a good head unit with ipod support for around the $200 mark (not including the cable)? I had heard good things about the Alpine in particular.
Whiplash @ Jan 11th 2006 9:49AM
I don't know why apple doesn't just make thier own head unit. It could have a slot on the front where you slide your iPod nano into it like a credit card. That would be cool.
Tbgame32 @ Jan 11th 2006 9:57AM
Matt, definitely go with one of the new Alpine units with Ipod FullSpeed... much faster Ipod control than most of the stuff out there and it only requires a cable, no seperate adapter box.

Gee, that's sad - iPod becomes "universal" standard - no more choice in digital audio players - especially for interfacing with other devices..
And of course Apple probably won't license their interface to anyone else.
Apple = Microsoft
but you're all happy about that..

Yeah Whiplash,
Only if it doesn't scratch the Nano in the daily in and out.
Cheers

It's unusual to me that audio manufacturers go to such great effor to support the iPod, but they don't support AAC in their head units on CDs. There are a few companies I've seen but I think companies like Alpine and Eclipse should as well.

Sony's car audio equipment is awful!
rye&ginger @ Jan 11th 2006 10:47PM
Sony makes rather poor car audio equipment in general so I would not even consider such a product. the Alpine units work well as I've seen.
