Apple's Intel iMac gets nakey
Dude, can't you
guys even wait until the Intel
iMac has its official coming-out before you're all over it like a hound of ravenous dogs trying to get it in the
buff? Sheez. Pervs.

Awesome, me want now paid 3200 for macbook pro and me want now.
so... it seems when faster core duos come out we might be able to upgrade these iMacs..... hmm.
i think i might need one of these.
It does look like one can take out the processor themselves, just like your average PC. I really hope so because that means future processor up grades for me (I'm buying an iMac next week!). Anyone one else think the same?
Also, from looking at the dissection, the hard drive looks easy to change. That's good because I'm not waiting the estimated 3-4 weeks for the 500GB HDD upgrade at Apple.com. I'll buy one later, maybe when they make them in 500GB/10,000 (what a dream) or those instant-start up HDDs that'll be out sometime maybe this year.
I wonder how much one can modify these iMacs... besides replacing the hard drive, upgrading the CPU, overclocking, liquid cooling (maybe), what else can be done? I'm seeing some very interesting hack coming out very soon...
Afterall, the new Apple ad did tell people to "imagine the possibilities" with
the new macintels.
That looks like ass compared to iMac G5, the "old" version. That thing was beautiful, inside and out.
The inside of the new imac g5 with isight looks just as bad inside. the machine is not user servicable so to who ever thinks they know what they are doing and want to open this, GOOD LUCK, you need very very special tools.
waiting for some geek to 'smashmymactel.com' this baby
thats why mike will never get laid.
Can someone verify that is the intel 945 chipset on the motherboard?
I really hope these and future intel macs stay socketed with standard Intel sockets. I'm really wishing I had the cash for one of these. Its just too bad they took out the FW-800.
Yes, it is an Intel 945 Series chipset, and an Intel 82801GBM is also present:

I also think that it's not very pretty looking on the inside as G5 iMac's, BUT it looks a lot better from a thermal standpoint.
so this is the proof that apple had been lying to their customers for years all along eh?
can they stop using the word i infront of everything? Granted they stole the idea from iRobot technology but do they have to go on and on and on about it? its an annoying campaign. sorry I had to say it. vista > os x > xp > turde > sony
that is a socket 479 that is usually found in notebooks, but has slowly found its way into desktop boards, and now the imac. you use a standard screwdriver to turn what looks like a flathead screw on the edge of the socket to release/secure the cpu. they couldnt have made it easier to udgarde the cpu, you know minus the whole cracking the outer shell part
lol @ #14. I hope you're joking.
my dad just got a free laptop through work, and hes so pissed he didnt wait the extra month to buy this one. he didnt even know what hit him. hes been sulking for a week.
#6, the only "special" tools you need to get the iMac open are a couple of strong magnets, a #1 phillips and a small assortment of Torx drivers.
Nothing your average hardware enthusiast will be struggling to find.
:| @ #14. Are you kidding? How can you even say Vista is better than OS X when it's not out, not to mention there's been little information on it. And Apple didn't steal the "i" from iRobot. :x It's actually spelled i, Robbot. And the i in that movie meant "Me", as in, I'm part robot.
hmmm…I thought iRobot was an Atari video arcade game.
But seriously, do you think it will be possible to replace the duo with a future update. FINALLY!!! Oh bless you if it's true, chime back whether this will be true or not.
BTW iRobot was indeed a revolutionary game.
