I think that statement is wrong and it might be the other way around.
Apple will start focusing more in hardware (more Macs, more iPods, i.e. more nicely designed hardware), letting other companies (cough, Microsoft, cough) do the software.
That would be the reason for the new Intel based Macs. Instead of spending hundred of millions in developing a new MacOS XI, maybe they'll end having somebody else building a new WindOS XI.
