NTT DoCoMo's new FOMA 702i series
Yes, yes, we know they'll never ever make their way across the Pacific to Americaner climes, but we won't
deny a certain sense of obligation to covering DoCoMo's latest
volley of handsets. Left to right pictured above we have the FOMA
SH702iD ("piano black"), N702iD (red), F702iD (gold), D702i ("shiny white"), and P702i (whatev),
all of which having various features such as 2-inch or larger QVGA displays, MiniSD slots, <1 megapixel cameras, and
the classic DoCoMo panache that drives our little hearts wild.

Oh man, these are sexy looking ;)

Hmm - they all have LESS THAN megapixel cameras? Not quite. Actually they all have 1.2 or 1.3 megapixel cameras. Which is still kind of lame, but then again the Koreans took over the megapixel race from the Japanese a long time ago.

What!! Why don't I hear any faggots screaming "UGLY! OHH! UGLY!" ?? Because its not from motorola? Stupid idiots.
SprSynJn @ Jan 17th 2006 3:22PM
I wish they would come here as well. Foma has some really amazing phones and NTT is a really good carrier I have heard.

#6:
FYI, those phone are free in japan.
docomo's foma 7seris is targeting young young people in japan. and once u sign the contract, they are free. cost no $$$.
and everybody know japanese product have BETTER built quality.
btw, i wanna see samsung's 8mp phone's ACTUAL photo / quailty, otherwise, i rather stay with my canon dSLR.
like i said b4, if camera phone dont come out with better lens, they still no good for me.
Jamar @ Jan 17th 2006 5:33PM
Well... these are still good if you want a cheap mp3 player/camera, as these things sell for about $13-$50 in China. Still no phone/text messaging/internet, but if there's a radio, MP3, or a camera, it'll still work if you get a FOMA card to use.

Are these GSM phones? Would an unlocked one work in the states?
Thanks.
jez @ Jan 2nd 2008 6:21AM
is p702i can be used in the philippines
kev @ Jan 17th 2006 7:56PM
I'm guessing they're W-CDMA/3G that take sim cards.
DoCoMo Watcher @ Jan 17th 2006 9:31PM
DoCoMo, of course, does not make the actual phones. The first letter of the model indicates the manufacturer. In this case, I woud guess
SH702iD - Sharp
N702iD - NEC
F702iD - Fujitsu
D702i - SonyEricsson
P702i - Panasonic
http://www.deviceprofiles.net/devicelist.php is interesting in this regard.
So if you like any of these, maybe shop around ;)
GSM not used in Japan @ Jan 17th 2006 9:37PM
RTFM. These are not GSM phones. According to the Japanese Cellular FAQ, these cannot be unlocked. There is a lively discussion on Joi Ito's Blog

"Are these GSM phones? Would an unlocked one work in the states?"
Goddamit, there's _always one_. Grrrrrr.
fogd00d @ Jan 18th 2006 12:13AM

I like the N702iD, it embodies my favorite characteristics of an electronic device; rectangular, sleek, and tight to the inards.
None of that rounded-corners little kid running into the sharp edge of the coffee table crap.
miya @ Dec 4th 2008 8:41PM
i just want to ask if i can convert my docomo foma N702id so that i can use it here in the Philippines? thanks
mark @ Jan 12th 2009 1:57AM
hi miya.. i also have one of those N702iD, and i dont know if it can be converted and be used here in the Philippines. I already asked some cellphone stalls and they said that they can't convert it. hope to hear from you if you have any gud news about this. THanks!
