Maybe some of the higher ups at
Nokia, Intel, Motorola, Texas Instruments, and Crown Castle's Modeo unit caught wind of our DTV series last week (peep
Part I,
Part II, and
Part III here), because
today they made apparent their belief in strength in numbers by announcing a
DVB-H advocacy group called the Mobile DTV Alliance, bent on -- get
this -- making DVB-H the standard for terrestrial mobile digital broadcasts in the US. Will they stick it to Qualcomm
and
MediaFlo despite
Verizon's
expanding support? Well, it never looks good for the other guy when you roll up with a posse, but let's just see
some actual rollout first, okay?
That's a pretty strong group of companies and I hope that they win.
The consumer always loses out when a single company owns a technology, especially when Qualcomm is involved.
