(Original) Xbox tips and tricks
Just because you have
(or haven't) gotten that spankin' new Xbox 360 doesn't mean you have to jettison your old school Xbox. In fact, we hear
there's a great deal of interesting things you can do your old Xbox, so why don't you hit us up with your best tips and tricks before a bunch of people let go this winter a
perfectly good, perfectly hackable console that might be put to good use.

2 Xboxes TSOP modded with XBMC (lounge and bedroom) using a shared media server, and 2 more TSOP modded with the Cromwell BIOS running Xebian (Xbox Debian) and busy being DNS and web servers. Total spent: the price of 4x second hand Xboxes.
Thanks for subsidising my PC server hardware Bill!
I soldered a reset switch into the controller (near L) so that I can be lazy and dont have to get up to switch programs (or games). After 5 months with it, it has only been accidentally hit once and that was when passing the controller to someone.
Your comments: surely [both triggers, black and start] does the same as soldering
your gamepad?xbmc scripts are amazing - I like the train time
table and football results. last.fm support is awesome too -as well
as building a full tag/album art database for your music and the imdb
integration for your movies. I think they need to build some sort of
structure for Tv series but I can't complain!
Use it to rip, stream, download any media including movies, music etc. I do that and am loving it.

So what are people's top XMBC scripts?
Obviously XBMC is tops on the list. But, there's a set of Python scripts that hook into XBMC and allow you to connect it to a MythTV backend

this is quite certainly the best thing I've done with my xbox, providing a very workable frontend PVR solution (assuming you've got a backend MythTV hiding somewhere on your network). I use knoppmyth (http://www.mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html) and a pair of PVR250's. Very stable. Very high WAF.

I use my xbox for everything. I have a vivo in my PC so I use that as a TIVO, then my xbox is on my network full time so I just watch my tv shows from my "TIVO PC" on my bigscreen. I don't even have my DVD player on my tv anymore. My xbox does it all (yes, I also put my stereo in the garage because with xbmc I just stream what I want to hear).. My xbox rocks. oh and yah, a modchip of course.. - softmod even sounds gay. :)
Once you get your xbox modded and install the killer app, Xbox Media Center, be sure to configure your PCs for proper and secure media streaming.

Mounting all CD/DVD rom drives (real and virtual) into a single folder is pretty sweet.
Hey guys i have a question... i want to purchase a mod chip but have no idea how to solder or whatever that is... i know there are some out there that do not requrie soldering but has anyone used these and are they that dependable... also there is soo many modchips out there which one does what!
Has anyone tried this one? http://www.reversetools.org/xbox_modchip/
it looks like a good one
number 47... why would u do that? u can just press left trigger+right trigger+start+back and it restarts. how funny.
Ya I was putting an LED in the controller already and thought I might like the switch. And I do.
DO NOT SOFTMOD, i know from experiance. Its nto very stable and messes up xbox's quite often. Just get a chip for like $50. The price of a game, how can you lose? I have the xenium is mad good. XBMC is the shit. If you need programs for xbox search for xbins
Well, I did this.. Kinda like 360.. =)

you can mod an xbox with just software. no soldering or flashing required. Upgrade the hard drive and you'll be good to go. I learned everything I know from www.xbox-scene.com
