Two new compacts from Rollei will
keep the company competitive at the low end, while not breaking any new ground (in fact, we suspect that, like many
other low-end Rolleis, these are actually made by Taiwan's Premier). The da10 (pictured at right) is a 5 megapixel
compact, with 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD, VGA movie mode and 32MB internal memory (oh, and it comes in both silver
and red). The ds6 is a subcompact 6 megapixel camera, with the same basic features as the da10, minus the internal
memory. Pricing hasn't been set, but we don't exactly expect these to be very expensive.

I wish manufacturers would start producing some nice pocket cameras that are as small as my Canon Powershot SD10 from 2003 (4.8 cubic inches). My SD10 is getting kind of dated, but noone seems to be interested in making (or able to make) new cameras that small. (This Rollei is 7.1 cubic inches.)
I compiled a quick chart the other day while researching new camera dimensions:

I have my SD10 in my pocket all the time, and it's the perfect size for sharing a pocket with other items (knife, lip balm, etc.)
