The GypsyMIDI controller
We're not really in the business of
asking why, but exactly how would one go about translating movement to MIDI? Well, the GypsyMIDI by Sonalog is one
solution -- beside making you look like robo-exoskeletally assisted (and that's never a bad thing), it actually
translates your body movement into MIDI input via Sonalog's "eXo-software." One arm will set you back $855,
the whole suit dinging your bankbook for $1,675. Hurry, you've only got seven months to save and buy yours before
Burning Man.

So, does this come with 3D modelling or animating software to turn midi information into their own, proprietary, skeletal information?
MichaelLC @ Jan 27th 2006 11:43AM
Forget the, "3D modelling or animating software."
The real question that needs to be asked with a system like this, is does it come with the two female models?
Barret @ Jan 27th 2006 11:46AM
This is so Bjork.

That's one heck of a waldo... hook it up so that a robot is copying everything you do... picture a puppet 3 stories tall dancing as gracefully as the model... or one six inches tall.
very cool

Is it USB powered?

Can I reverse it so that I can control their movements by playing on a MIDI keyboard?
That might be fun, then creepy, then fodder for an episode of CSI.

Ladies and gentlemen, Sea World proudly presents the Lazer Water Show feaututring the Solid Gold Dancers.
I bet you could really rock-out a hot cover of "Final Countdown" on this thing. "It's not a trick, it's an ILLUSION, Michael!"

Actually quite an impressive project. The idea itself isn't new; I've wrriten up some additional similar projects here (BodySynth, MIDI Dancer) --

-- but unlike those, this maps easily to software. Now, I think the next thing to happen: this will get much cheaper, and more integrated with garments. The ability to control music software and do motion capture with a t-shirt . . . hey, come on, why not?
Don't miss the DJ video on their site.

Within days of its release, the entire Dead Can Dance catalog will be converted to MIDI.
