NEC MultiSync LCD20WGX 20-inch widescreen display
NEC makes some great displays, but they've been eclipsed in recent years by other players. Will the
MultiSync LCD20WGX change that? The display certainly has good specs: 20-inch widescreen, 6 ms response time, 700:1
contrast ratio, 178-degree viewing angle, and a built-in USB hub. It's due out in Europe this week at a price of
€560 ($680). No word on a US release, which of course would help if NEC wants to reclaim its former glory.

This thing doesn't have a prayer when going up against displays such as Dell's 24 inch $860 gorilla.

so how much is that in pounds then?

I alreay own 4 nec laptops. Their screens arent that nice...(This was just a joke. The screens are 10" 600x800 xga from around 1994) Anyways, at my work, the only moniors that seem to hold the test of time greater than 8 years are viewsonic and nec. Nice to see them back in it. That monitor looks absolutly georgous. I love the buttons under the display like that.

Same resolution as Dell's 2005FPW (1680x1050) and similar contrast ratio (700:1 vs. 600:1) for roughly the same price. I wonder if it's the same panel (which is also the same as the 20" Apple CinemaDisplay) once you scrape off the branding.

david you know this is a 6ms panel dells is like 12gtg

HDCP?

Nice to see NEC come out with a wide aspect monitor finally. However, NEC's prices have always been a bit less than competitive. Dell's 2005fpw can be had for half the price if you wait for one of their crazy coupon deals.
To be fair, I would never trade my Mitsubishi DiamondPoint NX86LCD for Dell's comparable offering, if not for style, then for build quality.

Is there any chance that this will have LED backlighting? In the french text there is some mentioning of the LEDs...
TomDun @ Jan 30th 2006 7:30PM
Minda-I don't know a lick of french but I'm guessing the blurbage about the LED has something to do with NEC's OSD software allowing you to control the brightness of the LED on the front.

I have the 19" 1280 x 1024 version of this monitor. I have had it about a week and so far, I am extremely impressed. First NEC monitor purchase ever. No regrets so far.

I use a NEC MultiSync LCD1970GX with OptiClear. It is awesome. NEC makes a good monitor in my opinion. Opticlear (and similar offerings) beats the heck out of normal displays.
kinderm? @ Jan 31st 2006 12:16AM
any word on the color spectrum?
Simon @ Jan 31st 2006 3:25AM
Did you see the side view on the full post? It's thick as a brick. Ugly motherfucker ...
And the USB Hub looks even worse.
Though, I'm surely biased, I just love my Dell 24" beast.

Power consumption?
Kamalot @ Jan 31st 2006 11:51AM
178-degree viewing angle sells it to me.
I can't stand watching the colors get all shimmery and funky when I step a bit to the side. I have a Compaq TC1100 tablet and the viewing angle and image quality has spoiled me. It is better than paper.
Jay @ Jan 31st 2006 1:58PM
Well I'd definately like to see 24-30" and with plenty of inputs like the 24" Dell... the Widescreen and response times are the selling points for me... I drooled over the 30" Dell, but the lack of inputs has me saving my money for another day...
All I Want: 24-30" Widescreen LCD ... sub- 8-10ms response time, component, composite, cable inputs, and a nice contrast ratio, and no built in speakers... Something that could double as a tv would be nice...

I want NEC's 15" laptop that has QXGA resolution (2048x1536). OR--- Does anybody know of a control board card for their monitor, I could buy the monitor from screentek and make it an external monitor. I bought a dell 30" and it's just too high ppi. I want this 15" laptop badly. WUXGA isn't high enough ppi, think T221 or U105, etc. 200ppi plus is ideal for high resolution people.
