CBS affiliate plans local net streaming of DTV

WRAL

WRAL in Raleigh, North Carolina has streamed local news programming over the web for nearly ten years; now they're trying to take the next step by webcasting all of the CBS programming they carry. Here's the twist though: the strategy is pinpointed at allowing IP reception of the programs only if your Internet client is within the affiliate's coverage area. The station is working with Decisioncast's new TitanCast product to distribute the programming.

What's interesting about all of this is that WRAL is effectively trying to deliver a form of IPTV directly as opposed to working with a local telco or ISP to do so. If CBS buys in, WRAL intends to make all programming available (complete with commercials) both in live mode as well as a Video on Demand mode.
