A Sharp W-ZERO3 meets the saddest of fates
Sure,
we've all dropped (or
thrown) a cellie, dropkicked an MP3 player, or nicked an LCD (yeah, apparently the 2405FPW doesn't include that rumored force field), but it seems
even the smartphone elite are not immune to catastrophe, as this so totally busted-up Sharp W-ZERO3 can demonstrate. We'd tell you the sordid tale of
love, betrayal, dentists, and pneumatic chair lifts that have no regard for gadget life, but we fear the shock would
kill you. Click on for another picture of the carnage.

Looks like he Sharp W-ZERO3 just went through 10 rounds with WWE wrestler he he he
Yikes, reminds me of when I dropped my spankin new Palm a few years back and completely cracked the screen.
No worse feelin in the world than droppin and breakin' expensive electronics.
Dropkicking an mp3 player... gotta try that.
So Homeboy went to the dentist and the PDA fell into the chair moving mechanism, where it was crushed to death. Ouch!!! I would be UPSET, so upset i probably would've never brush my teeth again.
Arh coodent ger parst de engrish...
Yeah - I dropped my (then) new Palm V down an elevator shaft. There was a less than an inch gap between the floor of the hall and the floor of the elevator cab, but it was enough. I was able to get it back, and actually recovered all of my data. I called Palm and told them the story, and they sent me a refurbished model for only a $100.
My best translation of the translation is that he had the thing in his back pocket, and it poked through the gap between the seat cushion and the back of the chair. When the (lovly?) dentist went to recline him to work on his teeth, it got bent like the curvature of some kanjii letter(Probably something like a "v"), making for what must have been an upsetting cracking sound.
That looks really terrible. I mean that nice phone looks like it a cost a lot !
Why bother publishing something like this on engadget? It is not news in any shape or form.
Dental calculus? Damn.
Who cares if it's news or not it's gadget related? This is a site for people that love gadgets and posting this isn't exactly hurting anyone is it? Besides Engadget is one of the most frequently updated sites that I read (and updated with interesting information). "Oh my god my fingers broken because I had to scroll past the one story I didn't want to read"
Keep up the good work Engadget!!
#8 - Why bother posting comments like that. It is not valued in any shape or form.
This is gadget-related. And man, that sucks. Would have been icing on the cake if some mechanism in the chair got busted and the dentist made him pay for it :)
Ouch, that hurts just a little bit inside...
Seriously, the build quality of the W-ZERO3 is crap. I'm pretty amazed that it is still in one piece...
#8, if you want news, read the New York Times or even USA Today... this is a blog. Most people who follow Engadget appreciate the personal tone of the writing, I would think.
#8 Was it your Wzero-3 LOL. It's People like you who make me come back to sites like this. You keep on bitchin' / flamin' so I can keep laughin' at the put-downs you get.
I can't believe Sharp management actually let this one be released. The concept is good, but the implementation is really poor - not Sharp quality at all. WHen I first read about the W-ZERO3 I immediately wanted one, but after trying one out at Bic in Yurakacho and LAOX in Akihabara - no way. The case design feels so flimsy, and the way the screen slides up to expose the keyboard is designed for failure. The demo model at LAOX had actually been taped shut. When I asked the clerk about it, she said that it broke right after they put it out for display.
I remember when I dropkicked my mp3 player (Archos GminiXS202). Well okay, more like I dropped AND kicked it. It was in a non-secure pocket and I was running to catch a bus and it flew out into my foot. It went into a hedge rather than along the sidewalk, but it still killed the backlight. At least everything else still worked. Oh, also I missed the bus.
