The Palm Treo 700p?
Is it
real? Is it a Photoshop? We'll let you decide, but this image of what Treocentral forums user Merlyn 3D is claiming to
be the Treo 700p (that'd be the supposedly forthcoming
PalmOS-based version of the Treo 700 series) was apparently snapped some time earlier today. Based on the other shot
Merlyn posted, this device (if it is, in fact, real) runs PalmOS Garnet 5.4.9, which means if this thing has EV-DO
support (which it damn well better) PalmSource must have done some serious work under the hood.

I cannot believe that people still are insisting that this is not real. Ok all you "photo experts", if you would take a few minutes of your pompous windbag lives to read the TC thread, you would come to the conclusion that this is indeed real device. Accept it, deal with it. I know it bursts your little "I have to crap on everything" bubble.
I will remember who not to listen to next time I want to get some photoshop advice!!! lmao!!!
May 2006 - Sprint
ROFL, Today is 6/21/08. I stumbled across this page when searching for more info on my phone which is a Treo 700p, (the phone in question) I spent a lot of time reading these posts and really laughing at the people saying its fake. I was very entertained Thank You !!!!!
Rich
More information continues to be leaked about this phone. Evidently the Sprint Connection Manager Software already has software drivers built-in for the 700p.
Will the 700p have 320x320 resolution like the treo 650 or will it have the lesser 240x240 like the 700w? I hope it has the larger resolution.
That's "sleek"? Looks the same as the 700w to me...
The last thing I want is to have to keep dealing with Garnet, but the scary thing is that I'll probably be the first one in line to buy one of these. Assuming it's real, of course.
looks incredibly (poorly done) photoshoped.
Yes it looks like a 700w.... but look closer -- with a higher resolution screen.
Tough one.
If the home button was on the left, I'd give it credibility, but a home button on the right, and duplicating the phone button replication? Hrm.
They still have to get rid of the knobby. Everyone always thinks I'm happy to see them with the 650.
Looks 'shopped :|
Justin-
The 700p is supposed to look like the 700w from Verizon. The rumored 800 is the one that is supposed to be sleek.
I really hope this is fake and the 800p is for real. This doesn't seem to add anything different from the 650 other than EVDO and a different design.
Looks fake, you guys should wait and buy the apple phone from me.
I don't think that its a real photo because all EVDO devices have the EVDO (active or not active) symbol at the top of the screen along with the others. But its a decient photo shop at least.
If you zoom into the image, the area around the Sprint logo on the body is pixelated. I say it's fake.
Oddly enough, the timestamp on the picture looks like it might have come from the camera application on a PPC phone...
To everyone saying "looks photoshopped!" you obviously have very little to no actual experience picking apart digital pictures. I'm responsible for one of the fake "video ipod" pictures (http://www.engadget.com/2005/10/04/is-this-the-video-ipod/) that everyone screamed was "OMGPHOTOSHOP" but it was actually a PDA with a piece of paper stuck over it (somebody called it after about 50 comments). I'm just saying a lot of these things, even if they're fake, aren't necessarily photoshopped. Sometimes it's just easier to display a fullscreen screenshot of the PalmOS on a 700w, you know?
Desperately waiting to see an update that makes me regret buying the 700w and also paying 120+ a month for EVDO on it..
Here's hoping it doesn't crash/lockup as much as the 700w :(
what about that black mark above the red button next to "treo"? any body know what the stars in the comment section are for? how do u get them?
Follow the thread at treocentral and you'll see it's not fake.
You guys should really stop with your amateur "photo analysis" and just read a little.
The 800P IS fake, however, as the original source said so himself. It was ALL made up.
And it's IS from a camera phone, namely Merlyn's ppc-6700.
This has gotta be fake, it has those 2 buttons under the screen that aren't used in Palm OS, and it lacks the menu button that all other palm devices have.
thanks for share this post,i can not express my feeling now
there is a site for laptop battery
http://www.topbatteries.co.uk
another site for uk battery

If it's not fake...why scribble out the model number? Just wondering.
If you guys read the Treocentral post, there is quite a bit of evidence that leads one to think that this is real. I read the whole thing (took me damn near an hour, and its still going), and was there when the first pic was posted. Looks pretty real to me.
Shadowmite even states that he feels it is legit.
real or not, why do people keep taking these damn pictures with cameraphones?! they look like crap! Give us 5 megapixels or give us death!
Well i got hold of 3 pics of the darn phone. Looked at em up real close, THERE NOT PHOTOSHOPED. Its impossoble, everything is constant on the pics, unless its a hardware mod for the buttons, then its a fake immitation. But the pics are genuine and not photoshopped.
I like my PPC 6700 for now. There's no chance in hell I'm going to fork over another $500.00 for a new smartphone with an old OS. Come on Palm, enough with freakin' OS 5.x and upgrade to 6.0. Diablo! Talk about milking something!
"why do people keep taking these damn pictures with cameraphones?! they look like crap! Give us 5 megapixels or give us death!"
I think a camera phone is easier to believe. The resolution is low, and it acts as though the person who took the photo wasn't actually supposed to be taking it. A 5 megapixel camera is easier to photoshop, and less likely to be believed.
Palm or not, it's all made by HTC anyways.
I'd say it's legit since there are no drastic changes to the device, I mean if they started talking about WiFi and whole new Palm OS, then I'd be a bit more skeptical. And I agree with comment 18, what's up with these cameraphone shots? Sheesh!
I just bought the Earthlink Treo 650 for $200. With all this high speed stuff out now will I be able to use the low speed 650? I was going to use the 650 for 3 years or so... They will keep the data open for the low speed 650 right?, or are they going to make us buy new stuff so we got to use the new high speed stuff? I already put few hundred $ into the 650 and I don't want to buy a new one!!!
Its real. Palm named the Verizon version the Treo 700w cause the "w" stands for Windows, while the 700p, stands for "palm" hence the palm OS on this device.
Why is there a GREEN button and a PHONE button? The button which brings down the options is missing.
The green button is the answer button, and the red button is the end call button/power off.
"The button which brings down the options is missing."
Nope, it's there. You can't see it in the pic but it's downn in the lower right hand corner (where the "up arrow" is now on the 650). It's oddly placed.
And it's real. Shadowmite confirmed it tonight. Some of us got to see other pics.
Here are the deets:
1.3m camera
320x320 screen
FAT32 file support
312MHZ cpu
EVDO
Palm OS 5.4.9
BT 1.2 at least but maybe higher
No WiFi drivers installed and no ability to test a WiFi SD card
Ability to force digital roam - maybe just in beta release
Large dbCachse size ~18000Kb
Support for 900 cdma band
64MB total nand? with ~62MB free
DTG8, Ptunes 3.09, and SprintTV in rom
hp, you're an idiot and totally wrong.
there are other pics of this phone out there now, just look around.
We even have the freakin' Rom from the thing (dumped last night) and it has all new software on it (the new version of Blazer won't run on a 650). Pay attention.
Looks cool. I travel the world and need a Treo on GSM. The 700p is the right one for me. Considering crackberries are on the way out.
And lo, Palm issues we lowly endusers YET ANOTHER GARNET DEVICE. And now, look! MORE hacks and tweaks and soon-to-be-released-bugfixes to this ancient, crashprone, creaking OS to eke out a few precious drops more revenue -- er, life, out of this dying, washed-up platform.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH, but no. By all that's holy (and unholy), NO.
I'll take the lower resolution of a 700w with crippled DUN over this newbutnotnew POS retread. Does POS mean PalmOS or Piece of Shit? You be the judge. With Garnet entering yet another year of tired service with its underachiever UI and API dating back to approximately the Stone Age of Personal Data Assistants, I tend toward the latter.
Of course, PalmOS devotees will cleave to this like an NSA agent to their Blackberry, but don't be fooled. This is Smoke & Mirrors 101, and behind this curtain lurks the very same 'stable if you don't actually use it' OS that makes my Treo 650 crash with the kind of regularity that pits primal rage against my ability to not hurl my $600 phone into a concrete wall with all my strength.
Caveat emptor? How about Caveat ENABLERS, because any fucking SOD who plunks down money for one of these is buying in to the most abysmally mishandled product line in history. I can't believe soon-to-be-sold-off PALM is actually still here - They don't even have an OS! Oops, no more palmSource thanks to mismanagement and infighting... Well, that's OK. People will buy another GARNET device, right?
That's what they're hoping, SUCKERS.
I'm not sure why people get confused with the phone (address book) button and the green (talk button). I've seen this mentioned several places and it's just how my Samsung i500 is. You use the address book (the phone button) if you want and can call from there OR you type in the phone number and hit the talk (green button) the red is generally end call and power on/off.
There's been a phone button on the palm forever http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/review/palm_v_review
