Apple fixing nano screens free
See, whine long and loud enough and the
boys at the boardroom table will hear your plight, dear consumer, and come to your aid. Well, perhaps in a more perfect
world anyway, but at least on a case-by-case basis Apple's doing decently well for themselves on fixing where a fixing's
needed. According to AppleInsider, AppleCare Repair Centers will begin processing nano display problems (specifically
those screen cracks people keep decrying), which they claim has affected less than a tenth of a percent of nanos. Well
done, now hows about issuing a patch for that mad scratchy acrylic they used on the damn things, eh?

I don't own one but how easy to these scract compared to the videos, minis or regular? I owned a mini (it's in it's last leg :( ), took decent care of it and didn't get many scratches :o.
Glad to see Apple is doing that though as I'd def want it done if I owned a nano.

You can try to fix it yourself:

Yeah I had one of the first batch of Nano's, think I bought it the day it was announced. My screen cracked about a month later, and Apple replaced it no problems.

OK, well what about people that have the funny little leaf design on their 4G ipod???

mpmaley - The videos and nanos scratch just as easily. The minis and all other previous iPods do not scratch nearly as easily as the new iPods. If you ask me, Apple had the right idea with making the entire Mini case aluminum.

I keep mine in a nice RedSox case, so no scratches for me! :D
I've heard that toothpaste works as well as Brasso for fixing ipods.

Kudos to Apple for sorting this out.

Well I have seen the differences in the nanos, if you feel a screen now it is rock soild, if you felt the ones that have the issue they have soft plastic covering the screen. They must have changed the plastic..

I had one of the first batches of nanos, got a dent in the back of it but it still worked for a few weeks. Apple's warranty policy is to not fix ipods with dented backs. After those few weeks the click-wheel stopped working and any time i moved the hold button over the screen would go grainy and die. They still replaced it, maybe cause it was still the first generation of them and still had screen related issues.

My nano's screen died (went half black, half white) when it fell from a shelf. Apple replaced it within a week, no charge, with a brand new unit.

My friend's Nano that he bought a few weeks after launch had its screen crack after a few weeks of usage (he said he didn't know what happened ;D ). Anyways, Apple replaced it for free. Canada, btw.

Although being a Creative fanboy, I would never own one of these, it's good to see Apple fixing their problems for free! I know that Creative would do nothing of the sort.... ^^;

You must not be much of a creative fanboy, or you would know they would never have to, because they build all of their players rock-solid. No kidding, have any of you looked at the zen xtra? Certainly bulky, but built like a rock.

I just bought a nice case from "Core Cases" $19.99 at my local Mac Store. But for my brother who thought the case was tacky asked me to make custom screen protector out of one for my pocket pc. 13 cents later, he's happy.
