Feral Robot for Public Authoring -- robot cars in the park
We can't say we're quite
hip with all the lingo involved in "Feral Robots" and "Public Authoring" but we do know that a
couple of hacked RC cars took their place among backpack
wearing pigeons last week in London and did some pollution monitoring of their own. The main bot was equipped with
air quality and carbon dioxide sensors, and had GPS and WiFi on board to track and send the information it picked up.
The other bot had a "solvent vapours" sensor, but was mainly there to hang out since it didn't have WiFi.
There's a video of the romp in the park, but the creators are still mulling over feral bot's air quality findings.

Feral robots? Were they Maximals or Predacons?

The range on those radio shack toys is like 50 feet. what's the difference between having the sensors on the cars, and just having the guy carry it around himself?

Jay,
What do you mean? They're robots ... that means they run on their own. They guys weren't out there driving them, they were testing them. They ran on their own (autonomous) and logged the data and GPS waypoint.

Oh. Well, I saw the pics of the guy w/ the remote in his hand, and the other pics where it looks like they're following the cars around so I just assumed.
