There have been rumors circulating
that Moto was working on a RAZR slider since, well, since the
original
RAZR came out over a year ago. Now the company has gone ahead and fulfilled the dreams of slider-loving RAZR fans
with the Z, which is making its debut in Korea, where it was apparently designed and developed by Moto's local team.
The phone is
14.8-mm thick, has a 2.2-inch display, a 1.3 megapixel camera and an MP3 player, and
will be available exclusively through SK Telecom at a price between 500,000 and 600,000 won ($516-$619). The rest of us
will have to wait for the inevitable gray-market models to start trickling out, which we imagine will be pretty
soon.

Nice! C'mon Moto, release one for the North American market!

It's 14.8mm thick, not 4.8mm.

do you notice that this ad breaks all traditional advertising... they blur the sex appeal out and actually focus on the product.
interesting, but I'm not a fan of the razor's... the keypad is really annoying.
nick @ Feb 8th 2006 10:25AM
Please, I need this to come out in the states. How long do you expect the wait to be, if they even decide to launch here?
Rishabh Kumar @ Feb 8th 2006 10:35AM
just...lol
"My first impression was that the Z is fit for foreigners big hands, not for Koreas smaller ones. Its size is almost similar to that of the RAZR"
yes, that means us (non-asians) with gargantuan hands. I'm asian (south asian=indian).....I can hold a slider FINE...it's not that big
Scott @ Feb 8th 2006 11:45AM
Why didn't they call it the SLDR?
RAZR, ROKR, SLVR, SLDR...
Mike @ Feb 8th 2006 11:49AM
It's nice but has anyone seen the RAZR slider concept phone designed by CielNoir? I doubt anyone can say the moto design above is better than this:

First Samsung, then Motorola.
What's up with those companies and cute girls? Do they want us to focus on the products, or who's holding them?

This will never come to the US. Why? Because the camera is better than VGA quality. Case closed. Moto likes to keep us in picture hell despite getting the American public all hot and sweaty with its trendy phones.
gerald` @ Feb 8th 2006 5:35PM
#18: a cursory look at Phonescoop reveals that you are incredibly wrong, and both Verizon and Sprint (although Verizon would be more likely to get this) carry phones with 1.3 megapixel cameras.
the real reason this won't get here for a while is that it uses R-UIM cards, and none of the local CDMA networks plan to support that for a while yet.
Rob @ Feb 8th 2006 6:01PM
Firstly sir, I am #19 and I will thank you to remember that. Secondly, my response was aimed at the Razr (which has achieved lightning quick ubiquity) as well as the Pebl (which could follow suit). Using your thoughtfully provided website, I did notice the Razr V3c and V3i are now packing 1+ mp cameras, but I'm sure you'd agree we could all do better than that. My point was simply that Moto, among others, is starving the US of valuable megapixels and dragging their feet with anything over VGA quality.

those aren't any asian girls.. they're MODELS..
you should watch a discovery channel special on mainland china and get back to me on ur little fetish.
pfft.
gerald` @ Feb 8th 2006 9:10PM
Rob: for some reason, you've become #21 - I suspect there were comments made but not confirmed before ours, so it might be best for us to continue our comparatively civil discussion whilst referring to each other by name.
anyway:

With regards to the RAZR and PEBL I think it's a form factor constraint - to keep the size down, the cameras need to be small, and conversely the pixelcount is woefully low.
I don't know if the PEBL will attain ubiquity - I think it's great, but the "feel" of the phone isn't something that carries across the room like the RAZRs thinness, thus reducing its value as a status symbol.
My point was simply that Moto, among others, is starving the US of valuable megapixels and dragging their feet with anything over VGA quality.
I'm Canadian, so we get phones *after* you do, ie the V3C launched on Verizon in December, and came out here... last week. I don't think it's a big collusive conspiracy, but instead that there's relatively little perceived demand for it.
I also think that the things that would need to come with a large-photo-taking cameraphone like a memory card, decent lens, and possibly even software would end up causing the phone to become priced out of the market, and that's before we get into the issues of carriers demanding that data transfer of photos taken on the phone somehow benefit their bottom line.
Andrew Lee @ Feb 8th 2006 9:37PM
wow... hot... and the phone is not bad either...
John @ Feb 9th 2006 6:06AM
I am really looking forward to getting a RAZR Slider!
Ed @ Feb 9th 2006 10:23AM
Rikrok, you may think you're being complimentary, but your comment is fetishizing, demeaning, and racist.
Darth Tony, go back up into the Appalachians with the rest of your inbred family and stay there.
Rikrok @ Feb 9th 2006 11:27AM
Chill out Ed. I hardly think I'm being fetishing, demeaning, or racist. I happen to be Asian myself, so you probably incorrectly assumed I'm some white guy stealin all the asian girls. Get a life.
darlene @ Feb 20th 2006 7:11PM
The CielNoir design is aweful. The Moto design is much better but, I still think Motorola sucks. I hate my RAZR. I've had enough of the Moto interface, which cannot be described as anything but sluggish. Also, despite price and other drawbracks everyone and their mom will have one within a few months. I don't see why people would want a Moto anything because of their one-style-fits all presence. There are dozens of slimmer, sexier sliders out there that we cannot get in the US either. I want one of those. I'm absolutely sick of this phone. Everyone else's broke, why won't mine?

Hey you know what you guys should release this phone to cricket so people can buy it from cricket i bet you would get better money.
Robbie @ Jul 23rd 2007 4:16PM
I was in Korea last fall and handled the Razr Z. I found it to be a bad LG Chocolate ripoff and also the earpiece volume wasn't so hot. If you are horny for the design, check out the Motorola Rizr Z8 or the Slvr L9. Both excellent phones that can be unlocked for most of the major carriers in North America.
