Cingular's 8125 now available to one and all
Alright, we've done enough waiting here,
people, and now the wait's over. Cingular's officially launched the 8125 (aka the HTC Wizard) on their site -- yes, for consumers. Expect
to pay $350 retail for it with a two year contract, not including that bonus $50 mail-in rebate you'll send in that'll
get the cost down to $300.

I am with Cingular and was under a two year contract also. Mine wasn't due for an upgrade yet and all I had to do was call Cingular. I upgraded my plans and the phone will be here tomorrow. I just did another two year contract. You just can't do it on-line. You can also go into any Cingular store and they can fix you up. Your not SOL :).
I just bought the 8125 and I flashed the rom to a qtek version. How do I go back to my original version? Am I up the creek or can some one help me???
Thanks!!
How does this device stack up against the Treo 650? What is your preference and why?
Real life usage of 8125.
Im IT setting up this thing for a somewhat capable PC user, a former Treo 650 user.
Yes it comes with 2 styluses. (stylus access is on bottom but on right side when using keyboard - made for right handed people.)
Stylus is a collapsing type-they should have put 2 stylus holes in device, left and right.
maybe it could be an antennae enhancer when in device as well? hmmmmmmmm?
No User manual, must download. cheap pricks.
No MSFT WM 5.1 fix for WM 5.0 yet, but they just released Treo WM 5.1 update, its now on Palm Site.
Email pull works great, but must have data plan with carrier, otherwise WiFi is also good option.
Can set phone to periodically check for POP3, & other mail by itself.
"Push" function is best used or configured with WM 5.1, otherwise you will have issues using 5.0 & Exchange2003. The fix is worth the wait.
Cingular Xpress Personal mail is NOT required to be configured for anything, although in Quick set up directions for POP3 mail it is written in such a piss poor way that you cannot tell wtf they are talking about. retards.
Exchange2003 over the air Synch using updated WM 5.1 on the 6700 and the Treo 700w works great - so it should work with this device when it comes out.
This thing really works, its great generally.
Pocket office is awesome but hard to see some things in Excel or Word- butits great to have the ability to work on docs though, if you had to you can.
Its not slower than Treo 700w, its the same.
However, if using Treo 700w & synching with Exchange 2003, Treo needs to be charged daily.
8125 does not and can go at least a couple of days like this, checking and downloading POP3 email.
I have read that a Proxy setting needs to be removed for connectivity to Web, but ask for confirmation from Cingular. If using Cingulars Media Net data account, I am able to connect and browse without changing Proxy.
Clicking a lot can cause a lock up, or it just gets slow, but usually only when IE browser is running.
*Check running progs frequently to kill processes for saving battery, CPU, and RAM.
Battery with Edge or WiFi is still going - its at half and on the 2nd day today.
Get a decent case as dropping tis will likely kill it.
Keyboard is good however keys backlight not sufficient at all during day-cannot see some keys in normal room light even if backlit.
At night its fine.
QUERTY requires pressing certain keys to access Shift function - if you need to enter in a password online, this really fuc*ing blows chunks.
Jesus just put in 2 shift keys.
assinine.
if you get used to this key layout its great.
but again, put in shift keys and do it right.
fucking RIM-fucked it up for everyone.
blackberry's suck and their design is in elements all around us now.
overall, its a tad heavy, about the same as a Treo 700w, 6700 is for sure lighter.
8125 is a fat phone but feels good in your hand.
6700 is good, btw, real good.
it works and Cingular just shipped 3G SIMS , so maybe it can use 3G in EU/Asia.
-Oh the SIM-as far as I can tell you cannot copy all tel #'s to SIM from phone - there is no Phone2SIM function, but a number of SIM2Phone functions.
that is really retarded.
its ok, not worth $450 but ok.
should be around $250 but considering they give you Win PktPC 2005, ok.
wonder, if you wipe out OS then what?
g'luck all.
At this late date, it is most likely a moot point. But, in the ATT description it mentioned 80211.a/b/g (upgradeable to e/i). Anybody have a link to the e (wi-max) update?
Mine is a G4 type. I had been collecting bits from xda-developers for WM6.1 rom flash but had not gotten around to actually performing the task yet. My Father asked about the 802.11e update for his 8125. I have no answer for that other than I just did not think the wi-max was hot yet.
I've had the 8125 for about 4/5 months now and I love it. I have the $20/mo unlimited data plan which is absolutely necessary for my GoodLink setup. GoodLink (http://www.goodlink.com/corporateNew/index.html), as we have it implemented, is a push email system which syncronizes everything you would find in a corporate outlook/exchange setup. That is the main reason I bought the phone.
PROS:
Plays video great and I use it for watching movies, anime, and slingbox often. Note: It really helps if you convert the video to AVI and 320x240 or the visual is jerky.
Seems easy to develop for if you know any .NET language.
Lots of great free software available.
CONS:
Could be a bit faster but typically the speed isn't an issue. I'd just like to be able to play some of the better games.
As mentioned above, it should have 2 stylus holes, with one being on each side. I'm left handed and I find it awkward doing everything from a right handed perspective and there isn't enough configuration to work around this.
The slide out keyboard doesn't lock in place quite as well it did which is annoying but still functional.
Stylus replacements are purchased from HTC directly.
Overall, I guess it's easier to point out flaws but in the end, I would never go back to my RAZR. I hope technology continues in this direction of "all-in-one" gadgetry. I'd like to see more CPU, RAM, and Storage space in the next model.
I got the MDA as an upgrade through my girl's T-Mo account a few weeks ago and then switched so a Cing sim (I can't stand the 8125's keyb)
I love it, wonderful device for the price and very useful for my needs (camera, music/video player, streaming music/video, light web browsing, e-mail, instant messaging, remote PC control, general PIM functions)
Granted its not the fastest gun in the west but its small and has great battery life ... Also, with a little overclocking and registry tweaking, most of the speed problems disappear. Skype works perfectly, even kinda works over EDGE if you arent driving. I've had no problems multitasking, even listening to SHOUTCAST over EDGE while instant messaging or web browsing.
A2DP and AVRCP support is wonderful (with latest ROM or A2DP addon found on many forums) I use it with the Motorola HT820 and it works perfectly... I work for a renovation company and absolutely love being able to listen to stereo music, answer calls, make calls with voice dial, change volume, change tracks... without ever unzipping my little Case Logic belt pouch or touching the device with possibly dirty hands :) ... not to mention, running around the jobsite and listening to SHOUTCAST with wireless headphones is all kinds of fun.
I love the keyboard. Best I've used on a handheld once I got used to it. Very easy to type long e-mails or send IMs quickly... One handed operation is almost impossible but can be somewhat remedied with a good key mapping app and a screen protector so you dont mind dialing and pressing a few buttons on screen with your thumb.
Overall I think the Wizard is a great device... If you get the MDA version and are brave enough to screw with the ROM, you should definately flash it with IMate or QTek or anything other than T-Mo's ship ROM (1.8?) cause it sux0rz... I am much happier now with Cingular's latest (2.24) ROM, even over T-Mo's latest (2.26), for alot of reasons I won't bother going into (search forums ;))
I'm about to research now but I may as well ask here also ... Does anyone know of any SD GPS card and software available that will work with the Wizard? Thanks in advance ...
hey i have two questions, i just ordered the the 8125 from cingular.com on thursday and its now saturday and im wondering when i should recive it,
and my other question is that if the 8125 has different colors or different face plates like the razor or sidekick
