Introducing Engadget Mobile
Yeah, we know Engadget's been a little heavy
on the cellphone news lately. The number of new phones being announced has grown exponentially over the past couple of
years, something which has made it difficult to satisfy those readers who think there is way too much cellphone news on
the site, as well as those who are perplexed (and sometimes upset) when we skip over a handset announcement or some
other tidbits. So rather than try and split the difference and make increasingly difficult decisions about what news we
should cover and what we shouldn't, I'm proud to announce the launch of Engadget
Mobile, a new spin-off site with obsessive daily coverage of the world of cellphones and wireless.
Engadget will still continue to hit all the major cellphone news (there will be some overlap in posts), but Engadget Mobile will be able to offer a depth and breadth of coverage that simply isn't possible on the main site. That means more handset reviews, product announcements, and industry news and gossip, as well as coverage of topics that we've never tackled very well on the main site like mobile software, wireless gaming, moblogging, and ringtones.
We figured this was a very good week to get things going, and so to welcome Engadget Mobile to the family we're going a little overboard and giving away a cellphone a day for the next 30 days. This week we're offering winners their choice of a Treo 650 or a Treo 700w, check out the site for full details on how to win.
P.S. - Yes, both Engadget and Engadget Mobile will be getting cellphone/PDA-friendly mobile versions. We're working on it!

hurrah!
Smooth move guys. The site was increasingly getting overloaded with Moby news, and I was scratching my head trying to figure out how to seletively read without with aid of rss feeds (I like my pwetty pics and mostly full pieces not hidden under a link).
Keep on keeping on :)
Nice. IS ther ea mobile version of it, too? :)
mmmmmmmm, me likey.
man, there weren't even rumors about this coming out! Steve Jobs should take a page from the Engadget book.
Good solution. I raise my glass to you all for all your hard work.
Great idea! I've been starting to thing of Engadget as the mobile phone news network! Now we just need more robot news so we can create Engadget Robotica!
On the other hand... Curse You for making yet another site for me to have to refresh every few minutes! :P
I thought you guys were launching an MVNO! :-)
Nice move. You guys live in my head.
I am really happy about this. I have to say I have next to zero interest in cellphone news and removing such news from the regular podcast will make it much more enjoyable for me.
Awesome! I don't have too much to say that is substantive, but it is great! :)
I am looking forward to both RSS feeds..
Does this mean there will be less mobile news on the main site, or the same?
Huzzah! Congratulations on the new site, goes right into my bookmarks bar.
Please make a PSP Version, that would be really great!
Thank you. I usually skip over all the cell phone stuff so this is a welcome change. While you're at it...please create an Engadget Robot site so I don't have to skip over all the silly robot stuff too.
Off topic for a moment: Congrats to Peter on making the cover shot of New York Mag.

yay! you really should get a forum for it tho. then you could be the number one phone news site.
I can't see this being met with anything but positive responses -- Excellent idea, excellent timing.
I'm on the less-phone-obsessed side of the fence, but to the guy who first thought "MVNO!" ... I like your thinking. :)
Better chnage the color before tmobile sues you.
Looks good to me!

the add to MyYahoo link doesn't work.
Good move Engadget. I like this.
This is great news. I have been waiting for this.
It's not that I don't like hearing the latest on mobiles, it's just that been in Australia a lot of the take about the carriers is irrelevant.
I'm glad to see you consolidate the Cell Phone info in one place. Keep up the good work.
Time for a new phone, my treo 600 is 30 months old.

And if you have Opera on a Series 60 smartphone, it displays perfectly just the way it is :D
As for Peter on the cover of New York magazine; holy freaking crap :D
