New Sony Cybershot DSC-W50 and DSC-W30

Sony intro'd a pair of new ultra-compact six megapixel digital cameras today, the Cybershot DSC-W50 and the DSC-W30. Both are about the same (3x Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens, new, supposedly more user-friendly UI, higher light-sensitivity settings), the main difference seems to be that the DSC-W50 has a 2.5-inch LCD screen while the DSC-W30's screen is only 2-inches.

More Like the DSC-N1. Uses the same battery, ofcourse smaller screens and no touch screen as well. But, the camera look alot like it. I've not looked into it, but do any of the elfs have ISO of 1000?

why is sony making yet ANOTHER camera....they should focus on making innovative products....not bs

I wonder if sony is going to make you buy a special finger attachment that only works on sony cams to push the "take picture" button. Or maybe a special sony eyepiece that only allows the wearer of a sony only contact lense to see through the aperture.

Received my DSC-W50 yesterday and I already love it. Moved down from a larger and more expensive camera and the pictures are every bit as good. The size makes vacation look a lot better (less to tote). An extra battery and Two 1G memory cards take up virtually no room and appear to be good for about a week of exposures with no hassles (about 800 shots @ 6MP) and the 1000 ISO is great! All in all I think I'm really going to enjoy this camera.

I had originally went to Best Buy to purchase a Canon SD450 but they were out of stock, so I decided to look around. The closest camera that I could find, w/o spending more that $300, was the Sony W50. It seems like a pretty good camera. It has very little shutter lag which is a big selling point for me (that is why I had originally decided on the Elph). HOWEVER, it seems that when the Sony is in video mode you can not zoom. I know this is mainly a still shot camera but if you can get a camera that does allow you zoom while in video mode(like the Elph) why wouldn't you go w/ that one?

Its a great camera. Amazing size. It fits in my pocket and is quite light. The large LCD display is awesome. Battery life is pretty good. Shots taken even when moving come out well. Most of the shots are so good, that I hardly use Picasa to improve them.
Strongly recommended.

I bought this camera last year it has worked fine up until eary this year where you go to turn it on and the screen says access and the lens keep pooping in and out and you cannot take pictures at all and even if you try to turn it off it still pops the lenses in and out anyone have this problem????? let me know cause it drives me nuts i love the camera and I really don't want to buy a new one unless I really have to...

Sony had a lot of problems with this camera not opening and displaying 'Access error'. Mine was just out of warranty and I pleaded with them, telling them how many Sony products I own. They finally cut the repair price in half (55). It was repaired and lasted 6 months before it started doing it again. There are a lot of sites (http://www.fixya.com/search/p472665-sony_cyber_shot_dsc_w50_digital_camera/access) that complain about this.
I've had it with Sony, I will by a Canon product next time. They know this was a problem and should recall these or something.
