Xbox 360's out of the woods in 4-6 weeks, sez Moore
Feels like we've been hearing this since the get go, but Peter Moore (who we interviewed
not long ago) wanted to let everyone at DICE and elsewhere know that apparently Microsoft's nicked their component
supply problems, and that "within the next four to six weeks, anybody will be able to walk into a store and buy an
Xbox 360." Just like that, Mr. Moore? Well, we'll let you know how Microsoft's really doing in, oh, say four to six
weeks, yeah?[Via Xbox360Fanboy]

I still see plenty of XBOx 360 on Flatbush and Cortelyou ROAD.
PS. Need to fix the link. It is not working @ Engaget.
leojsoap @ Feb 13th 2006 12:43PM
much like Vista will be out 2006, lol.
TVGenius @ Feb 13th 2006 1:24PM
Just think how many more orders would have been filled if they didn't have to have a demo unit at every store in the free world. Did anyone not think they would sell plenty without wasting all those units?
fuzzylollipop @ Feb 13th 2006 1:29PM
the reason is everone that wanted one has one for the most part

Uh, not wishing to throw cold water on an impending flame war or anything but the 360 has been available in stores for at least the last couple of weeks here in the UK. It's getting rare again now, probably as people figure out they can actualy go and buy them, but there's at least two major high street stores with stock on-line and, up until last week, the local Game stores (formerly EB) had them for purchase over the counter. Stocks are begining to appear, although of course the Premium packs are selling much, much faster than the Core.
In the US I'd expect the situation to be worse owing to the sheer number of pre-orders that have to be filled but I wouldn't be surprised if stores started carrying stock within this time frame. I'd expect it to be the same as, say, the PSP was over here: it's available over the counter but there's going to be gaps of a few days (or a couple of weeks) where they're sold out simply owing to demand.
jc @ Feb 13th 2006 1:44PM
We have lots of them on the shelves here (I counted 8 at just Walmart and Superstore). Personally I am waiting for a price drop... or at least a list of good games.
Paul @ Feb 13th 2006 2:10PM
Actually they are coming out of the woods as of the last 2 weeks or so. Target locally as well as other stores have had them in stock from time to time.
Dell has had them in for almost a full week or two.
Amazon, Sears.com and (the evil bundle whore) Gamestop have had the systems in stock on and off for the past two weeks.
There not hard to find if you look in the right spots.
I don't have one yet though because I'm waiting till some of the manufacturing woes to dissipate. I figure the build quality will be a bit better when demand drops off little. Also Microsoft can make a few revisions to any defective, lackluster, or questionable hardware components.
Plus the good games arent very abundant. However I did love playing PGR3 at the store and Full Auto is not far off. Though the $400 price tag also tends not to be my greatest friend either. Though I have been jonesn for something good to use on my 27 HD LCD TV so I could just spluge any time now.
portorikan @ Feb 13th 2006 2:34PM
For those waiting to splurge... Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter comes out in a little over a month.
I have a feeling this game is going to be phenomenol. Single player, and online. Ubisoft's online work is always excellent with the GR series.
Samt @ Feb 13th 2006 2:35PM
anyone have any idea when in Canada xbox 360 will be in stock?
TheBlunderbuss @ Feb 13th 2006 2:40PM
...Anyone with $400+ that is.
I wonder if this means they're still losing money on it. I read that MS loses money for each unit, because component cost alone exceeds the 360 price by around $300.
Another question is "did they change anything to solve the problems the system had" ie "is there a new version?"
I simply do not know exactly what plagues the 360, or if the number of defective 360's is accurate, but I know that it's always better to get version 1.5 of something. I got my XBox in 2002, and it hasn't pooped out on me yet. Look at the automobile industry -- a model's first year comes out. It's a neat car and whatnot, but it hasn't withstood any consumer field testing. Then the test results come in, and the company refines the car.
So did MS better their product?
Did they figure out a way to cut their manufacturing cost?
Would those cuts reflect on the consumer price? the quality of the unit?
In any case, it'll probably be a few years before I get mine. By that time, there'll be better technology and maybe a newer console. Who knows?
It's an interesting and exciting time for technology.
dave @ Feb 13th 2006 2:47PM
Cool, but when are the worthwhile games coming? I'm all about purchasing a new piece of hardware as much as the next guy, but I'd like some decent content to go with my noisy, enormous white box :)
aws910 @ Feb 13th 2006 2:49PM
I'm waiting till it gets H4X0R3D!
Lee88 @ Feb 13th 2006 2:53PM
"4 to 6 weeks"... isn't that what MSFT said at CES, which was about 4-6 weeks ago?
sparty @ Feb 13th 2006 2:56PM
What walmart has 8 on the store shelves? i live on long island and no store has seen one in months!
daaper @ Feb 13th 2006 3:07PM
They're easy to find here in southern ohio, too. Most Best Buys have them. If it wasn't $700 for the console, game, controller, AV cables, etc. I'd have one by now.
MrTroy @ Feb 13th 2006 3:12PM
Microsoft... to prevent further mishaps such as this. Please oh please stop sending XBox 360 to places where people aren't gonna buy them. The system isn't that awsome yet where everyone has to have one.
First example. Whatever walmart has 8 on the store shelf. Never send to that one again.
Kevin @ Feb 13th 2006 3:53PM
I am sure they will have more then enough when the PS3 comes out to compete. I am not trying to be a jerk either, I would assume that they would just hold them back until PS3 is on the market, then claim that they "fixed" the supplydemand issue.
Mark Sumner @ Feb 13th 2006 4:09PM
The CostCo nearest me has a heap of these things bundled with PGR3 and an extra controller.
I'd love to have one -- as soon as there's a game out that makes it worthwhile. And no, I don't mean just another military shooter with slightly better graphics than the last 200 military shooters.
tom @ Feb 13th 2006 9:34PM
I haven't seen a shortage in Canada for a while, for the last month, my local walmart has had like 12 units in the display case.
ZildjianKX @ Feb 13th 2006 10:27PM
I can finally find one in the stores now that I don't want one, go figure. They had 2 months, now I want a PS3, Revolution, and DS Lite.
Frank @ Feb 13th 2006 11:05PM
Can you guys stop using that freaky picture of him and just throw in a stock photo of the 360?
=frank=
Samt @ Feb 14th 2006 11:09AM
Tom, Which city is the walmart located. In Toronto i can't find any
norton @ Feb 14th 2006 3:38PM
I finally saw my first xbox 360 bax last night.
it was the core system (green box)
I was almost 1/2 convinced that the xbox360 was a myth
and the real game was pretending it existed until I saw the box, then I knew it must actually be real. but I want the premium system so I didn't buy it. Has MS gotten the bugs I used to hear about worked out? (over heating, crashing, scratching disks, etc...)
Causality @ Feb 14th 2006 7:25PM
I bought a green bundle from circuitcity onlines 'bundle'. Chuckle, I deleted all the items bundled with it and it still sold it to me. This was about 2-3 weeks ago. I havent had a single problem yet.. expect i cant break 500k on geometry wars.
Thill @ Feb 15th 2006 10:00PM
I called everywhere in Northen Virginia last week and nobody had them (360 Premium). My local EBgames told me that they are getting 1-2 in a week and still had 15 pre-orders to fill.. So, imagine my surprise when I went to Best Buy this weekend and asked an employee when will they get their next shipment in and he told me that he had one premium left "hidden in the back"! I grabbed it, and NHL06 and Call of Duty 2..
#15 What are you talking about? I picked up my Premium 360 for $399 (this included a wireless controller, a headset, HDTV cables, etc). I picked up an additional wireless controller for $49.. Where are you getting $700 from?
There are some good games out already (Call of Duty 2, Perfect Dark Zero, PGR3, and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Burnout:Revenge, and Ghost Recon are on the way)...
In less than six months there will be quite a few good looking titles to pick from. There are way too many complainers out there that have never even seen, let alone played, a game on the 360.. There is no comparison between a PS2, Gamecube, or Xbox game (compared to the 360) on my 56" Samsung HD DLP..
As or the PS3 and Revolution, it is a waste of time to try and even try to compare them to the 360 becasue they are both way to far away from being reality and neither have any games to even demo. At least the 360 had some games available for demo 6 months before it was released....
Chris @ Feb 23rd 2006 2:00PM
If people just looked online they would find one at a good price and have it at there house in a few days:-)
Kenny @ Mar 6th 2006 2:37AM
This is freaking lie because I per-ordered my 360 in September and still dont have it today. I was told 6 weeks ago that I was #11 on the gamestop list. There are people without pre-orders that just walked in stores and bought them, and there are others that pre-ordered in October and they have their but for some reason I dont have mine.
