NEC VoToL 30GB PMP
NEC Japan announced their new
Visual On-demand Tool for of Life, or VoToL. This compact PMP packs in a 30GB disk, 2.7-inch 320 x 240
LCD, USB 2.0, SD expansion, and support for MPEG-2/4 and DivX video and MP3, WMA, Ogg, Vorbis and AAC audio among
others. It also features an English to/from Japanese translator which takes spoken word and displays the translated
text directly back to the display. Sounds good so far, but this slightly-larger-than-a-5G-iPod device only manages to
pump 8-hours of audio (4-hours video) while on battery so that translator had better be damned useful for say, haggling
down the $340 green-equiv price in Akihabara, which is where NEC will drop this (first?) in March.

Flask-tastic!
this thing is bizarre, also hot. refreshing to see more flask-based industrial design in consumer electronics.
and can you just imagine the hilarity of this "translator"? all i can say is, this device sure will ride the precision invisible dipwave, all for the happy baby on fantastic smarts.

A spoken word translator? Would it have to be trained...?
Gotta stop compating battery life to iPods.
If people wanted iPods, they wouldnt bother reading this other stuff.
We like it how it is :)
This is really cool! I want it.

I think that this things really separates itself by supporting more/better format. At essenstially only 4 hours of batter life, the device is a little aenemic in that area but this is an infinitely more versatile device in my opinion. Plus it looks cool.
heh. It really does look like a fancy digital hip-flask.
What that top part? If you blow into it, does it give you your blood alcohol level?
4 hrs life for video. No music time listed.
Plus, no idea if it has English menus.
The top silver part is a dial which you twist to change between the devices individual functions.
