Rollei's 8-megapixel da8324 compact
Rollei has just
announced a new 8-megapixel compact cam, the da8324, which features an impressive set of manual controls for its class.
Besides multi-zone evaluation, center-weighted and spot metering, and exposure compensation, this 140-gram shooter also
offers manual white balance, plus the usual assortment of automatic settings. Rounding out the specs are a 2.4-inch
LCD, 32MB internal memory (expandable to 1GB via SD), and 3x optical/4x digital zoom. So far no word on pricing or
availability.

there's no point having an 8MP sensor if you're going to stick no-name shit optics on the end of it.
I'd much rather have a 4MP Canon.
I guess you would have to be pretty ignorant about photography if you say Rollei has "no-name shit optics" wihout a very good explanation behind it. But still, you're right that MP's aren't the only thing to be considered. Response time, low light performance and battery life are more important than 8MP. Anybody comment about those?
Yeah, keep your megapixels and give us response times!
Curiously enough, this camera is also marketed under the brand names of Praktika and Jenoptik in the UK. I own a Rollei verion and I have to say that compared to my last 3.2MB Canon, this is outstanding. The 30fps video is easily as good as that from a cheap, dedicated video camera. We can argue all day about the ins and outs of digital photography, but this camera is a little cracker. Come on then Canon, where is your offering?
