Which Windows Vista will you run? You have 8 choices.
Wow, ok, Bill, since you're reading this and all, we've got
to tell you a little something about product branding. Ever hear the adage "do one thing, do it well?" We
think that be useful to remember about right now, because the consumer confusion the Windows Vista team is about to
cause by offering up 8 different platters might be a little much. Here's the rundown for the rest of you:Windows Starter 2007 - Vista without Aero, probably meant for developing nations.
Windows Vista Home Basic - Basic Windows Vista for your single PC fam, doesn't sound like much going on here. Analagous to XP Home.
Windows Vista Home Basic N - European version of the same, but without Media Player (because of antitrust rulings against MS in the EU).
Windows Vista Home Premium - This is the one we're all probably gonna own. It's got Media Center functionality, Cable Card support, the whole home-media shebang.
Windows Vista Business - Think of it as XP Pro, but Vista.
Windows Vista Business N - Think of it as XP Pro, but Vista, but Euro.
Windows Vista Enterprise - Business version of Vista with numerous enterprise features, like Virtual PC, volume encryption, etc.
Windows Vista Ultimate - Love that name. This one does all of the above (and more); what else do you need to know? It's ultimate Windows..

Windows's days are numbered. Do yourself a favor and get you some OS X or some Linux. OSX is expensive but worth it. Linux is free, but it's for people with no life. I'm on ubuntu 5.10 and it's damn nice. They'll even mail you a cd for free from their website.
A windows media marketing blitz of massive information designed to make each buyer "unique" -- just like all of the rest of them.
Anyone who buys this on the first day is really unintelligent, buy it on the first day with bugs and crashes, and all other sorts of crap.
After looking at all the Vista stuff and thinking about how much they are going to charge I decided to just switch to Kubuntu Linux (KDE version of Ubuntu). Loaded up with the ease of XP and working awesome, not to mention free.
Who needs options? Everyone knows real bizz runs best on Debian GNU/Linux. Fascist people dividing prices. Why not let people choose with the need instead of the wallet? Ah just forget it M$ wont care for the little guy so why bother? Deeeebbbiiiiiiaaaaaaannnnnnn !
If cornered ... I'll go for Windows Vista Business N
in answer to Captain Obvious's question I didn't find any probs settin up my MCE 2005 pc on network. But in answer to the main question I think I'll be getting the Ultimate addition, mainly because hearing the name makes it hard not to.
This is great news

Allot of you seem to think that OSX/Macs don't crash? Phewy! I do DVD and audio production on a G5 at work and I have to reboot all the time because the Ram fills up and have to restart everyday. Not saying one is better than the other, but for some reason people believe macs are touble free. Same about Linux and other OS's.
Fact is if you install software not made by MS or Mac or whatever the software can glitch. Main reason Macs and other OS's have less issues is because there is less software.
People like macs because they are trendy. People like PCs because the are functional. Sure the case is nice and all, but i don't want to pay an additional 2-3k for it. My PCs are all under the table anyway.
funny... ur all complaining about the next windows but half of u are prolly runnin windows right now.
Yeah, WTF is up with "8" edtions, are they trying to waste peoples money by them not getting the right edtitions OMFG.
If you wanna chat further go to my website and look in the off-topic forum...
Okay...
#1 OS X sucks... always has.
#2 MAC owners are ignorant and probably never even used windows to even have the right to say anything about it.
#3 Bill Gates is the richest man in the world, so Id say hes doing something right.
#4 Utimate, with crossed fingers to be under $400.
I say go for the new windows Vista microsoft used to release a new OS every 2 to 1 years they have been spending a lot of time on this one so it will hove to be good
Mac there is a completely differnet thing mac screwed me up so badly i just chucked my iMac out people say mac gets no viruses but welcome to the real world mac there are 10000000000's of viruses that could infect your mac computer. i have never had a problem with my Dell Inspiron 2200 notebook that i got from Dell for $900 and i paid $3000 for a load of problems from my mac.
so i give vista the full go ahead for the OS and i hope mac goes into financial problems again befeore the iMac got released and they have to close down.
!BLOODY APPLE COMPUTER!
Windows vs Mac. boring stuff. Just have to say i use bothMac an windows OS. Why because my boss doesn't mind me spending at least an hour a day rebooting the windows machine with its bloated OS... Isn't windows essentialy DOS messed around with and with windows as the GUI?
I just purchased a new Dell Insperion E1705. It has a 2.16Ghz Core Duo with 2G of RAM. It came with XP media Edition (free upgrade) and is Windows Vista Capable. Personally, I don't see any reason to upgrade to Vista (any version) any time soon. I purchased XP very soon after it was released and was extatic to be rid of Millinium. XP has been an extremely solid OS and I am very happy with it. Though some people will rush out and buy Vista the day it's released, I am sure most people, including myself will be sticking with XP for the forseeable future.
As long as XP continues to be a solid OS, I don't see any reason to part with my hard earned money.

After reading all these anti MS posts, I have determined that I am the only XP user in the world whose XP PC doesn't crash or have to be rebooted hourly. WOO HOO, Lucky me...........
Personally I think windows in general sucks. If they made enough games that ran on Linux I would defiantly run Linux instead of Microsoft. Then I also would like to admire the Microsoft support team ... if some of the people on it were any dumber I would of thought I called a mental hospital instead of Microsoft. Another point I would love to point out is that their lovely media player and their other exe. programs to read and edit docs. And files don’t even recognize all the files MICROSOFT creates. And you have to love the compatibility problems windows have compared to Linux. (For example I tried to install something on a computer and it wouldn't install, so I tried it on another computer of mine, that didn’t work. Finally I try it on a laptop for the fifth time and OMG it WORKS. So I uninstall it from the laptop since it has a small hard drive and try installing it on my main computer again. OMG it works! Then being curious I try it on the laptop again. It doesn’t work. WTH it didn't work and now it does, vice versa.)In conclusion I think Windows is one of the most unstable OS i have ever seen and wouldn't buy it if it for the fact its the only one that things will work on. For the new one "Windows Vista" its going to have more features which means more problems and overall thanks to their support team more frustration. Or insted of buying it you could do what another Tom posted and wait, hope, and pray that there is eventually a torrent for "Windows Vista". And for a price if you would want to get the one closest to XP Pro which would be Vista Business or Premium i would say for a new copy when it comes out and considering microsoft being the OS monopoly (execpt for wee little Linux) prob. around 250-300$. Good luck affording that needless to say i can't.
I will be running whatever version Leo Laporte says is the best lol GO LEO! no seriously, you are all forgetting how many options we have the way it is now. Just beacuse windows vista has 8 options doesn't mean you can bash it. Microsoft is a RICH RICH company people. You know as well as I do the can afford to research and develop like no other. I'm not saying vista is the answer, but it will have more technology in it to utillize the high end PC's some of us own. ROCK ON BILL
I will be sticking with Linux/MAC OS X 10 ALL the WAY!
For Bill Gates and Microsoft they can jump off the Empire State Building for all I care!!!!!!!
For starters, mac operators either never tried windows, or people that dont know how to run a PC. PCs are way more powerful than macs, and run alot better if you know what you are doing. AND macs crash too. Computers crash when people just save anything to where ever they feel like it. If you partition your drives then your OS can run at its best all the time. Most people will save something to the desktop, then somewhere in the C drive which in turn makes the computer search more and slows it down. And people dont service their computers enough with tools provided. So if you dont know anything about computers and think you know all cause you own a mac, then keep your comments to yourself. and the reason nothing is made for macs is cause they are gutless and cant run anything that is made now. I would like to see a program that uses alot of juice be run on a mac compaired to a pc that is up to date.
Windows Vista None
I will look identical to Ubuntu Linux

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/
a User preview is available, it will sunset on june 2007, it is available to download , but it is a massive 2.7 GB ISO I currently have it installed on my laptop and desktop, Suprisingly the desktop has 1 GB ram, Intel celeron 2.69 GHZ 128kb l2 cache, and it runs flawlessly, Btw it has no limitations.
Ultimate for my next laptop. Maybe this XP PC will get it someday.
