Yep, it's the DS Lite Japanese all dressed up in its
packaging and ready for a night out on the town. For those of you that care: score! For those of you that don't, well,
sorry, but you know how much we love this stuff.
I got a DS for Christmas, I love it, probably have to fork over some more money to get the DS lite. Here is my favorite import site that I have used. liksang.com
Lik-sang sells them, and yeah, they work fine. You just need to change the default language when you start it up to English. USA gets them when our supply of normal DS's runs out I guess. So probably like Christmas. Who knows.
Are you going to need power adaptors or anything like that? I have never imported before. This is the first thing that has ever caught my attention. Have been toying around with the idea of getting a DS, but did not like the look and feel. This puts me over the edge but I dont want to wait till Christmas.
Damn, that's slick packaging. I can already hear my wife asking for one for her birthday this fall. The DS still is the best handheld on the market and I just think the lite is going to grow the marketshare and continue to bury the PSP.
For all the importers: Hold off. The lite will be here soon enough - Nintendo is not going to keep producing the old DS, so those will be discounted at some point and these will show up.
Maybe "Metroid Prime: Hunters" will actually be released when the lite is. :)
Power adapters, you will probably need a US one. Im betting the old DS chargers will work on the lite. Games and systems are region free, but for non internet multiplayer, they are not guaranteed to work together if one game is from a different part of the world than the rest.
japan and US use the same power adapters. I have one of each (imported a white original DS) and they are exactly the same and interchangeable between my us and japan ds.
The DS lite *does not* use the same power plug as the DS, it's the same one as the Game Boy micro! So if you have a GBM you can charge it with that plug!
I ordered mine from the ever so trusty Lik-Sang a bunch of weeks ago, and I must say that they know how to do online business well.
I ordered enamel navy, but looking at the pic up there, dang does it look way off than what I expected. I expected it to look blackish, really dark-colored with a subtle tint of dark blue, but purplish-blueberryish is NOT what I expected at all. But at least I'm satisfied with how it looks so much like candy :)
just picked a blue one from the e-mart here in seoul funny how long the lineup was to play with the store model while the adjacent xbox 360 was totally ignored by the youngins
the playasia one looks like it's a phototshop mock up... I haven't seen live pictures yet other than the white one.... I still think white is the best.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
SCORE!
WOW DS lite huh? you gotta love how everything seems to start looking like an ipod ( the whole white plastic case look)
man, i want one! engadget crew, make my dreams come true and offer it up as a giveaway and let me win! :)
So when do we in the US get our hands on this? Or (if answer sucks) where can we import? Will an import work with US off the shelf games?

Now I just need a good excuse to replace my perfectly fine DS.

HA! you know, the pick was blocked by my schools filter cause you used the words 'Japanese' and 'doll' in the same sentence.
engadget, please think about those less fortunate (with shitty filters) and dont put the word 'japanese'(who knew it was dirty) in a comment again :)

I can't wait anymore. It's time to conduct business with lik sang.
Reggie mentioned yesterday that the DS lite may not launch in the United States until late summer. Too bad.

verbatim-trogdor, You have ordered this one:

It's really dark-colored if you ask me...
I ordered one off Lik-Sang last night. I'm hoping I get it before March 20th when Tetris DS and Metroid Prime Hunters come out.
Yeah, this is cool stuff... I also ordered the enamel blue one two days ago from Renchi.com, slightly cheaper than liksang!
Cool, thanks for the tip. I just made an order through RENCHI. Let's see when it gets here - can't wait!

Looks so dam sweet! And you have a picture of an open DS on the back of the box. http://www.jeux-france.com/Webmasters/Images/7editeurs20060221_142626_2_big.jpg . The white box looks the best I think.
Ah, turns out that what I thought of the lite enamel navy was different from how it really looks here:
