HP turns 40, makes crazy coffee table
We won't claim to have ever really understood HP's crazy ways, but whatever it is those lab rats have been doing for
the last 40 years, we can't think of any higher technological culmination than a crazy multimedia table
-- and apparently they'd agree. Misto, as it's known, developed by HP Labs, is basically a large touchscreen table that
allows groups of fawning nerds to gather 'round to share pictures, play games, and occasionally spoil everyone else's
fun by "accidentally" putting down their coaster at just the wrong moment. Apparently HP's actually
shooting for commercial release by Thanksgiving of this year; here's to hoping they make it multi-touch
capable.

I see they've rented 'The Island'.
What are they going to do at 50?
The MATRIX
This is gonna take D&D to the next level, that and bring pr0n to yet another room in the house
how about they celebrate by replacing my terrible computer? or completly redesigning thier customer support? or fixing my brother's "it's apple innovation that's jacked up by PC/HP unreliability" HP iPod?
I don't get it... it's a big touch-enabled screen running off of Windows. What is so high-tech about that? If you really wanted to I don't see why you couldn't whip one up yourself, as long as the touch-input hardware addition for a 42" plasma wasn't too costly...
I NEED one of these! Ok, not really. But like someone already said, why don't they fix what they have first, before having a table that will probably be astronomical in price.
Duh, because it's their birthday and it's a little treat for themselves to do whatever the hell they feel like doing.
I'm still waiting for that Linux Media Center they promised....Bastards.
Linux media center already exists:

Here it is in action. I want one now!

Actually talked to a company rep about this today and they've actually got a few different designs for this so we may see a few different models coming out the end of this year.
Warrenpeace read my mind, I thought of the Island as soon as I saw that. Why don't they just make it a computer/coffee table?
Wow. If I was a rich executive, that would be in my house.
I believe it is Sony who pioneered this concept several years ago, inluding the ability to move stuff from a laptop to the tabletop by drag and drop, and a wall display in the same environment. HP is less and later, and should acknowledge prior art.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but if I can play Ms. Pac Man table top on it, then I'm buying one!
