Kong shipments of Nintendo's new
DS Lite haven't even made it
to Japan yet, but Lik Sang managed to get an in-depth hands on look at the big N's latest. And they like what they see.
They could only nab the "Crystal White" version, since the other colors will be delayed for a week or so, but
they like the look plenty well. The biggest change to the new DS is a brightness control instead of a mere backlight
on/off switch of the previous version. Lik Sang claims (with pics to prove) that the first level of brightness equals
the old DS, while the other three settings really blow it out of the water. They also preferred the updated directional
pad, buttons, and longer stylus. There is also a 1000 mAh battery as opposed to the 850 mAh of the old DS, presumably to
deal with the extra screen brightness. We look forward to playing with DS once it makes it over here, but we just might
not be able to wait that long.

I'm a PSP Fanboy through and through. I think it's a great system and in due time, it will have it's killer apps just like the DS. I think DS (and Nintendo) Fanboy's arguements that DS has a ton more great games is unfounded - they just have a better ratio. There are a ton of games on PSP... most are just crap. There are fewer games on DS, but of those fewer games, more are standout titles. Mark my words though, the PSP will catch back up. Unless Sony keeps thinking the PSP is a media machine and not a game system. If so, we're screwed and I picked the wrong system.
And like I said before, the new DS lite is pretty damn good looking, way better than the old ugly DS. Maybe as good looking as the PSP, but definitely not "overtaking the only thing the PSP has over the DS - looks" (paraphrased from one of the DS fanboys).
Wouldn't it be great if microsoft had a handheld so we could be treated to a three way battle between fanboys. It would probably sound something like this:

Youre right, I nor you have ever seen a ds lite in real life. But weve both seen the pictures. We can both see it looks good. The ipod design is superior, i agree. But the point im making is that psp fanboys, like yourself, feel threatened by the fact that the new ds looks so much better than it did, better even than your 'slick' psp. It will especially appeal to ipod owners, cos they match. In the one area you felt sure psp excelled ds, you have just been defeated. You didnt make the effort to counter any of this

the psp can play games, movies, access the internet, play music, and view picture on one hell of a big screen. Why the hell are we gonna feel threatened. WOW and your level, of idioticy is amazing, an ipod video and a ds cost more than a psp. Yet a psp can do all the features of both and more. Aswell on a large screen. The cost isnt the issue? Money isnt the issue? The issue is how the psp just doesnt seem like a sensible purchace in light of these better options of a ds (good gaming system) and an ipod video (good media player). Hence that reflects badly on your descision to make that purchce. You obviosuly DO have a fanboy stance, otherwise you could see that the only benefit to having a psp that has ever had any credibility is that its a nicer lookibg gadget than the ds. This whole debate is about how, now the ds is better looking, the only reason people thought the psp was ever any good has melted away. The psp was marketed on a pure philosophy of style over content Looks good, doesnt matter it cant do anything well. Now that the style has been cancelled out, theres nothing left to the device, and your descision to buy it has been totally undermined. Is any of this getting through?

I see your grasp of English isnt quite upto this metaphor, so Ill help you. The psp is a 'crippled' (as in, does not have the abilities we expect of one in its class)multimedia device because it a) only accepts proprietary formats b) has been rigged to specifically make to use of ones own legal content impossible on it c) has crappy interface software d) relies on proprietary formats that are ludicrously overpriced and shabby in their implementation e) is generally not designed to do what it is being marketed as able to do (i.e. we browsing, without any decent interface or text imput system. thats just ONE example.)

Wow a redesign competition is really gonna be used as an argument? I dont represent all psp owners, so if some of them were indeed full of themselves than so be it. But psp owners have nothing to regret, as long as they are smart and reasonable people who know exactly what they wanted from the machine, they would have most probably go tit. You are an idiot, you look bad not only on Nintendo fans, but on the gaming community as a whole. Get a life, if you have a ds enjoy it, but you arent some how better than anyone because of this decision.

The redesign competition shows that psp fanboys (like yourself) are starting to think that the psp's design, the one thing they felt sure their system was best at (being aesthetically pleasing) is now not as good, and this is reflected in the fact that half the entries for that competition look like the ds lite. This is not out and out proof of my theory, but it is bvery good evidence.
Its not the fact that I myself am better, but that i have made the better decision. You feel treatened by this, as a psp fanboy.
And my final point - you are kings without a kingdom, cos when you bought a psp, and bashed nintendo fanboys, and were so sure it was better you truly believed it was right. It is only now that you see that it just isnt true, and in fact you bought a device that cannot do what you expected it. Instead of just admitting this to yourself, you continue as if the psp IS still this great icon of technology, when in fact everyone who doesnt have this delusion can see its a worthless POS.

Yes, I got fxxk by playasia as well, I am trying this other importer called renchi.com for my DS stuff, has anyone got experience with them? My first order seem ok and reasonably fast, now keeping my finger crossed with the DS Lite.

IMHO the PSP tries too hard to have games that don't suit a hand-held console with those controls. It's like driving the car with just a gas pedal and brakes without a steering wheel. The games are meant for a different control style than they're using, and they're not changed to adapt to the one the PSP has. Not to say that the PSP isn't excellent; I've just disliked the controls on the games I've tried out.
But this new DS Lite looks very promising; I may actually get one, though I've not owned a hand-held console since Gameboy Colors first came out.
I don't care what you say about the Nintendo DS Lite. I think it is pretty cool. I was kinda stupid to buy the old version of DS.It's not my fault! How the heck did I know that Nintendo would release a new version of the DS?! Man, I hate when Nintendo and other video game companies make new versions of an old product and sell it. That just pisses me off. I mean let's say you just bought Nintendo Wii,( yes I know it isn't out yet but just pretend) and then 2 months later a new version of Nintendo Wii comes out. Wouldn't that make you angry? All your hard earn money goes into that system and then you find out that a new version came out you feel so stupid about wasting your money on an old game system. I don't care about the people that can afford to buy a new version of a video game system just after they bought the old version. It's just that everyone can't do that.
Anyway, I still like the Ds Lite no matter what. I like PSP too. Even though I think that it is heavy and bulky and can't really fit in your pocket and is very big. But it's nothing compared to the DS Lite. Did You PSP fans know that you can also surf the web on DS Lite? And did you know that Nintendo will soon release an accserory that turns the DS into a MP3 player that holds upto 250 songs that is the size of a Game Boy Advance game cartrige and costs only $40 dollars? I feel sorry for the PSP lovers . Ya , now with the new acsesories Nintendo will release for DS Lite your DS Lite can play songs,do Pictochat,play DS touch screen games, play Game Boy Advance games, have a calender , know the time , and have an alarm clock. Pretty soon I'll bet Nintendo will come out with a cartriges that let you see movies. So if you think DS Lite still sucks and PSP is better then you need to bye the DS Lite and try it out. I'll bet you'll love it as much as your PSP .
