TomTom GO 910, 710, 510 GPS units with 4-inch widescreen display
TomTom has updated its Go series of GPS units with three new models, the 910, 710 and 510. At the high end,
the 910 comes with maps of Europe, the US and Canada preinstalled, no doubt for those drives from Alaska to Russia
across the Behring Strait. It also includes text-to-speech functions and a built-in MP3 player. All three new models
come with a 4-inch widescreen touchscreen display, a dock for quick connections to a computer and an optional traffic
info receiver. All models will be available in April; pricing has yet to be announced. Oh, and Steve, it'll work with
your iPod.

anyone know if 910 does Europe part of Turkey only or all of Turkey? Thanks.

The TomTom is awesome, I got one last week and love it. Now I just can't wait to get my free flash drive from Microsoft ( http://www.cybernetnews.com/?p=371 )

At last! I can finally get directions to China via San Francisco. Been too long waiting...
Me @ Mar 1st 2006 11:24AM
Does it come with maps of Asia too? Last I checked the Bering Straight wasn't part of Europe. If you're trying to be witty at least get your geography correct.
Moonshine @ Mar 1st 2006 11:39AM
Its "Bering Strait" not "Behring Strait"!
Julie Chadwick @ Mar 1st 2006 12:04PM
You all need some geography lessons. Neither China nor Russia are in Europe. This would be good for driving from SFO to Paris via Iceland and the Atlantic, however. :)
NNTPgrip @ Mar 1st 2006 12:04PM
Bout time they start miniturizing these GPS+map things. Lets get a significant price drop too. I wanna see one as thin as the new XM Roady XT, with a price tag of $200 or less. Then I'll buy two...
Rick @ Mar 1st 2006 12:05PM
Yeah nice, but when is the TomTom ONE going to be finally released in the USA?
Alex @ Mar 1st 2006 12:05PM
If the pricing is right, the 510 will be mine. :-D
Rick @ Mar 1st 2006 12:21PM
#6 Your idea is already out there. It's a Garmin i2 car GPS. Some sites have it as low as $198 and the thing fits in your picket.
John @ Mar 1st 2006 12:26PM
FInally I can actually go somewhere in my flying car without getting lost. Once these come out, we're flying from The OC to Spain, then driving to Holland!
BD @ Mar 1st 2006 1:22PM
I like that it tells you the next turn is a right, when it clearly looks like a left on the map.

Don't call it that.

Actually Julie, the western portions of Russia are in Europe. Hopefully the Tom-tom people are better at geography than we tech nerds. I love my Tomtom 300, and expect that the newer units will be even better. Alas, I won't have the bucks to buy one...
Darryl @ Mar 1st 2006 3:16PM
I bought a TomTom One a few weeks ago (I'm in Australia), and I love it. My work takes me all over the city, so the TomTom makes navigating around the place a whole lot easier. The extra stuff on these new units looks cool, but for pure navigation the One does enough.
Loch @ Mar 1st 2006 3:46PM
Sounds like a good addition with the text-to-speech and MP3 functions. Can't wait to see how the widescreen looks.
oinky @ Mar 1st 2006 3:58PM
My tomtom 300 has an attitude. It gets nasty when I don't follow the directions it provides. It's like a cranky old aunt who keeps reminding me where to go. Is it just me or does everyone else has the same thing happen to them? Anyway, sometimes when there's like 5 forks on the road, it's very hard to pick the right one from the Tomtom unit because all the roads seems converged into one another. Does anyone have the same problem? How do you get around that? Maybe the new units are much faster and will tell me, "I see 5 forks ahead, take the second exit from the right".
Other than that, it's a dream to have, I don't get very lost anymore, only "slightly lost", these days.

"the GO 510, GO 710 (Europe only model), and GO 910..."
Is that for real?? Can any one confirm this please? I hope it's not true!

Still thick as shit. Make'em thin like the Nuvi.
tmonkey @ Mar 2nd 2006 2:06AM
BD - The next turn is a right. The road kinks around to the left, then the turn is off to the right (the green arrow). Just like if you are on a highway it doesn't tell you to turn if there is a bend in the road. It does take a bit of getting used to driving with a gps - you have to learn how to read the screen and what to pay attention to (the green arrow and the distance). Once you learn to read and trust it you wonder how you ever got anywhere new without one.
GPS dude @ Mar 2nd 2006 2:59PM
This multi-continent map thing is important. Garmin sells its "Nuvi" with a language translator (cool if you're traveling in Europe), but it only has a US map (stupid if you're traveling to Europe). Why would you travel to Europe with a GPS device that doesn't have maps of Europe?
Another boneheaded move by Garmin. Another smart move by TomTom.
Loch @ Mar 2nd 2006 4:47PM
T - looks like its only the 510 and 910 in the States. Check out clubtomtom.com. They have the US information.
Norman Speight @ Mar 5th 2006 2:02PM
Any of you people, or those who recommend Tom Tom, or indeed Navman ever tried to use one of their products in Eire (Ireland to you)?
They have probably five roads and bugger all else except for an outline of the country! On enquiry to their map provider I am told that there is no demand.
Ireland, by the way, is in Europe these days.#Much Much better is Co-Pilot. I have Co-Pilot, Tom Tom and Navman and CP is the very best of the lot - believe me.

Have there been any updates to the Ireland maps for TomTom 910? Just returned from a week in Dublin and outlying areas and I have to say for the first time in a year I was disappointed with the TomTom. Great for the city but even major roads were unknown once we headed south.
Surprised me after a trip to Poland in April. Had great directions for even the most remote areas there. We live in Belgium and use our Tom all the time. Love the features - especially the bluetooth with my phone since we can't use the cell and drive here.
bill keiser @ Mar 6th 2006 10:22AM
How is it any better than my Lowrance iway 500C with a FIVE inch screen that i got for $530? It talks and has a 20gb hard drive too.

I have a tom tom 700 i am very happy with it as i travel through europe all the way to Greece and is very reliable also covers Greece well enough and i am surprise they dont mention this on the website.
ANYBODY KNOWS IF THE 910 HAVE THE SAME OR BETTER COVER FOR GREECE?
Chris @ Mar 31st 2006 7:31AM
I would also like to know if the new 910 covers Greece as i travel there with my car from UK every summer. I am surprised to hear the 700 covers Greece as nowhere mention it.
John @ Apr 3rd 2006 5:50PM
Like our friend speaking about Eire, don't buy a Tom Tom if you live in or plan to visit Ulster (Northern Ireland). Belfast is well mapped and ... err .... that's it!
dimebar @ Sep 27th 2007 6:25AM
dear John , i received a tomom 910 at Christmas last and have had little help from their tech support. my problem is the map cover for areas of belfast, mainly bt10 bt11 and bt17. these areas ave been in existence 30 to 40 years and the brilliant tomtom shows a green field..

I want to buy a GPS before going to Europe, But the european map is around A$ 400, which I find is too high.I am in Australia. Any suggestions?

The tom tom go 510 is Simple to utilize. Its extra wide Liquid crystal display technology used for displays in notebook has light-emitting diode and gas-plasma technologies, Since LCD guzzles less power than LED and gas-display displays because they work on the principle of blocking light rather than emitting it. The touch screen is very nice and helps the ed users which in this case us navigate easily. The device has clearly spoken instructions with 36 languages in over 50 different voices. Additionally the aid of the hands-free calling wireless and the use of Ipod to play music make the go 510 an amazing device to endorse

Went to PC World today to buy a TomTom 710 but have been told all 10 series have been recalled owing to software problems. Has anyone else been told this

Hi All.
I want to buy a GPS before going to Greece
Does anyone know 's any Personal GPS Navigation System
that covers Greece(Athens,Thessaloniki,Crete)etc.
Regards
Sandy @ Jul 22nd 2007 11:48PM
Nicholas did you find a GPS for Greece? I just purchased the Go 910. On the box it states Europe. Unless something changed, Greece is a part of Europe. Tom Tom's customer assistant told me I had to purchase the map of Greece. The map of Greece though is not listed on the TomTom home buy maps page. When I do advance route plan with in Greece the route shows up. I hope I don't find it useless when I get there.
george k. brown @ Jun 14th 2006 1:13PM
It seems that there is nowhere you can buy a TomTom 710 in the UK. Reasons vary from store to store and in Halfords from assistant to assistant!
Conversation similar to this:
"Do you have a 710?"
"They have all been recalled."
"So you have had them in then...?"
"Well... No."
"They fall out of their cradle...?" was the best one.
And why do they advertise something they don't have or have no idea when they will have it.
Do you have to be stupid to work for Comet, PC World or Halfords or is that part of their in house training.
Help where can i buy a TomTom 710... Not a 700 or 910 Currys tried that...?
David @ Jun 16th 2007 2:49AM
maybe think yourself lucky you cant find one: I bought one for £400 a few months ago from Staples (OK, I know better now). It just died on me, but because I bought it more than 28 days ago(sic), Staples dont want to know, you have to talk to a rude, unhelpful TomTom call centre in Ireland, who make you do various moronically obvious checks before posting it back to them: will I ever see it again? do I care? Buy something else!
Stevie Boy @ Jun 16th 2006 9:23AM
When are TomTom going to tell us the release date of the 710? I have had one on back order for months with Maplins. I am considering other options now so that is TomToms loss. Maybe we should bombard TomToms customer services with emails.

TOM TOM is a NO NO
I've owned this product a mere two weeks and after just 2 uses it fell apart. The screen froze and couldn't be turned off, causing it to overheat which than caused the screen to crack when touched. To make matters worse the company refused to replace or fix a clearly defective model and wanted to charge an ADDITIONAL $500 to fix. So if you've got the money to throw away and want to invest in a product that even its own producers won't stand by, by all means purchase it.

Roberto @ Oct 23rd 2006 12:52AM
I bought the Australia version, it is a great product, nevertheless, I had a minor problem with my first one, and the change it right away for a new one (cool), but when I frist connected the new one, my antivirus software (McAfee) detected a virus within the TomTom....:( I have sent a comment to TomTom, it reminds me of a virus that came with the Ipod.... is this some kind of "Cosa Nostra"?
Mark @ Dec 24th 2006 9:08AM
I have now owned 2 of the Tomtom 910s Both broke down within a month. The courier company that collects the defective unit to go back to Tom-tom tells me that they are kept busy by defective 910's. Tom-tom promises a 5 business day turnaround or a new one. I have not received my replacement unit in 6 weeks albeit many broken promises. I will not use Tom-tom again
