Dell's 2007WFP appears online
After Dell
introduced their mammoth 30-inch 3007WFP and upgraded their
standard 1705 and 1905FP monitors with the 1707FP and
1907FPs and some lower end monitors like the E196, E176, and E156, all that really looked left was for them to
update their 20 and 24-inch flagship 2005FPW and 2405FPW
monitors. Well, we don't know about the 2405FPW yet, but the
new 2007WFP has officially appeared on their support site, and is sporting an 800:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2
brightness, 16ms response time, and all the same ports we're accustomed to (four USB 2.0 port hub, VGA, DVI, S-video,
composite, etc.). In fact, this monitor looks nary any better than its predecessor but for some marginal image
improvements and an upgraded enclosure. Not that we'd mean to imply we don't want six for each of our workstations or
anything.

All for $2199 ... no thank you.
"All for $2199 ... no thank you."
Someone's confusing the 3007 with the 2007.
The 2005 regularly goes for under $500. The 2007 will likely be no different, though the discounts probably won't be as easy to get at first. Probably more like $800 list. Still a great price.
What about HDCP compliance? Wouldn't want this monitor if it won't work with HD DVD.
Looks to be a great deal. My only issues are no component input and the 16ms response time.
"My only issues are no component input and the 16ms response time."
It's a Super IPS panel. 16ms is pretty good for that technology.
Super IPS is the best compromise between image quality and speed. Graphics pros won't touch those 4ms screens out there with a ten foot pole because of dithering and color gamut issues. But they'll buy a screen like this. And that's really the target market, I think; graphics pros on a budget that don't want to pay $1,300 or whatever for the Apple version of this panel (and yeah, they do use the same panel).
I was wondering about the update to the 2001FP too. Well...I took the URL from the article and removed the "W" character and found info on the upcoming 2007FP (the 1600x1200 non-widescreen version). It looks like the 2007WFP replaces the 2005FPW and the 2007FP replaces the 2001FP.
But this is a 20''.... apple's is not 1300 is 800... still is more expensive and apperently the dell is better, just wanted to point that the apple one is not THAT expensive...
The Apple 20" display is only $800, with a 1600 x 1250 resolution.
The 2005FP are about 500 as I just got quite a few quoted. I've had this one on my desktop for a while I personally love it, can't wait until it gets a little older so I can buy one of the new ones.
It appears they at least have a web page set aside for the 2407wfp, but nothing there yet:
http://support.dell.com/support/systemsinfo/document.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~f=&~file=/monitors/2407wfp/en/index.htm
Time to get a good second 2001FP. ;)
Just got my 2045fpw this past Tuesday. I paid $799 brandnew from Dell directly. I'm running a XFX 7800 GT and BF2 looks great, not to mention my 360 on component inputs. An update, how could they trump the current model?
"My only issues are no component input"
well the 2005FPW didnt have component video either so not really a big surprise, sure they could have added it but that would have made the price more
I think they're releasing these versions specifically to comply with HDCP - so that would be why there are no significant gains in the performance.
Thanks Vista...sheesh...
I'll stick with my 2005fpw thank you very much.
Looks good, but not much of an improvement over the 2005FPW unless quality gets significantly better.
Still, not bad... especially if we can continue to get 2005FPW's cheap over the next week or two. :)
Jeff From dells site:

So yes I was right about the price.
Looks like they added HDCP. Check this info:

No they don't have anything set aside. You can enter any number you want and still get that page. It's just a generic page header.
To wit:

Ben, the post is about the 2007, not the 3007, hence why we thought your price post was rather out of place.
Ben... you're still confusing the 2007 (which this post was about) with the 3007 (which you are digging up a $2200 price for).
The 2007 will likely be much, much cheaper.

Yes except the article was about the new 2007FWP which is NOT $2199 since it's the 20" model. So yes, Jeff was also right.
Yes, Dell restructured the discount/coupon side of things for some reason a few months ago. I have no sense of why they made that decision, but there is rarely more than a very moderate discount/coupon avaialable, and they are much more focused on certain products. I did actually just pick up the 2405 during a random time last Friday evening when they added a very short-lived $60 off coupon to the 20% off discounted price. Clearly they were not getting rid of them as fast as they would like and released a little late-in-the-week bonus.
I think products that are big with enterprise (IT guys love Dell) don't end up getting these discounts as much anymore. I picked up a 2001 LCD when it was still being discounted heavily and often, but then they didn't offer special deals on it for months at a time. I presume this is because the monitor was steadily doing well with corporate sales. In contrast, the widescreen 2005 LCD has been frequently discounted and is clearly a bigger item with general consumers, gamers, or special purpose uses.
If anyone knows how Dell's numbers are looking and what they might be responding to, that would be interesting.
The Gateway FPD2185W does everything better than the Dell, and it's as low as $540.
I bought a Gateway FPD2185W but returned it because it made a buzzing noise below 85 brightness - they all do this - and the bracket was tweaked so when I put it in portrait mode, which I use a lot, it was always at an angle. So for $600, it wasn't worth it. It also didn't come with a DVI cable, cheapasses.
The 2005FPW suffered from *really* bad backlight leakage issues. I wonder if they fixed things with the 2007. I would also like to know if this is another S-IPS panel from LG-Philips.
Supposedly it's PVA which is good news.

Ive had mine for about a month now and its hard going to work and trying to use a 17" lcd again. I miss the extra desktop space.
AFAIK the rumours say the 2407 will be 8ms, support HDCP/HDMI and sport that new stand like all the other "07" models. I was gonna wait for it but I really dont care about HDMI because im going to do everything in my power to circumvent it anyway.
In a word, useless.
NO HDMI (with HDCP), no sale.

Actually I don't think it is HDCP comliant. Becasue unlike the 3007WFP it doesn't list HDCP under the specifications section. Your example is in the video trouble shooting page. I wonder if some one got the wording wrong and ment to say an HDCP player could be the source of blinking video problems. Maybe the documentation isn't done yet. Anyway Samsung's 215TW, released just last week, beats the snot out of this display.

16ms? The older 24" dell is 12ms lol. And still no HDCP come on dell!

I just ordered the 2007FP today and got a $120 discount. I don't regularly follow those things, but $479 (Canadian) seems like a steal for something that just came out.
